Adapting original FJ40 steering shaft and wheel to an FJ60/80 box

Can anyone help steer me in the direction of the parts needed to adapt my fj40 shaft/column to an 80 P/S box? I can weld/fab. It’s much appreciated.

I hacked an early column to do my PS. For your 60, i’d anchor the outer column to the firewall plate with a continuous bead and then weld the upper column mount to the outer column as well. Run a 3/4”(iirc) to DD and then use the DD to spline at the 60 box with steering shaft between. You’ll also need to find a way to support the inner shaft to make sure the steering wheel is happy with the turn signal.

We have finally accumulated all of the parts neccessary for the power steering conversion on the 12/71 40. The goal for this build is stock appearance and the biggest hurdle is clearance for the power steering pump under the early aircleaner. Trying to stay with the 2f was futile. I sourced a minitruck pump with remote reservoir similar to @Coolerman s build. After speaking with a few 40 experts, i decided on a saginaw pump mounted in a low bracket. The pulley, pump and bracket were sourced from Marks Offroad. I sourced the firewall anchor and column bushings from @cruiseroutfitters...

This thread will detail my installation of FJ60 power steering on my 1981 FJ40 using the IPOR prefabricated mounting plate. My truck is SOA with 4x4 labs hi-steer arms, F-250 shock towers (part # E5TZ-18183-A) and had OEM power steering already installed. If you don't have F-150 shock towers prior to doing this modification, I highly recommend making it part of your build. You are going to have to cut the inner fender anyway, so you might as well do it all at once. If you choose to stick with the stock shock towers, you will have to do some serious clearancing to fit the steering shaft...

Can you use a fj60 PS box in a 40.......if so use a SBC pump to power it?

I used FJ80 intermediate shaft and U-Joints to connect the FJ40 column shaft to the FJ105 steering box. The U-Joints are rather large.

I also have the Cummins R2.8 and using the 2F bell housing and motor mounts the motor is sitting close to the DS like the F series drive train and I had to space the steering box and the F250 shock tower out from the frame a 1/2" so the bolt on the lower U-joint would clear the water pump elbow.

You have to shorten the steering column and add a bearing to the lower end of the tube at the fire wall to support the shaft. I had to cut the FJ80 intermediate shaft and weld back together to fit between the column shaft the the steering box.

Today I ordered an FJ60 rear axle housing to convert to a full floating axle.
After researching what it will take to modify the frame it looked like something that I have the skill set to accomplish since I did my own reverse shackle set up.

After weighing the cost of different options to install a used full floating that was quite high to have to replace the shafts.
The next option was to buy the kit to convert but would have RCV shafts and was almost as expensive.

Then I found out I can use FJ60/2 axles and found a housing to use for the conversion and found another source for a...

Part numbers for my intermediate shaft

Part number for the 2 U-joints I used, they are large and the clearance is tight on the steering box end with the water pump elbow.
