So I have what seems to be too much free play in my steering and want to try to turn adjustment screw a bit. Problem is the adjustment screw is frozen to the jam nut. I've put a little heat on it, sprayed with PB blasterr etc, but cant break it free. The screw just turns with the jam nut if I loosen the jam nut.

Question is can I loosen the jam nut and remove the adjustment screw to put it on the bench and try to break free? Didn't know if it would only come out so far and stop and /or mess something up inside if I attempted to remove it.

Thanks..

Probably. If the nut and screw are permanently fused you might be able to swap in a replacement.

I've rebuilt a few Saginaw boxes in the past. Or I should say "resealed" a few. If there's a lot of play then it's worn out. There's no way the adjustment screw will eliminate severe wear. I don't know if Toyota stuff is different.

seems the screw is adjusted down far as it sits, not much adjustment left.
is the box ported for boost? looks like other hoses attached
it may just be time to take it off and rebuilt

as stated above the adjustment is not a cure all.

Wash it with carb spray. Let dry, apply Kroil, keep it wet for a few days. Smack it with a brass/lead hammer a few time during the wet time.

I getting ready to rebuild a sag box. It has a similar adjuster. B4 you start moving it be sure to note it position by measuring or counting the exposed threads, so you have a reference point. I don't think that adjustment is going to do what you want it to do.
