I also have a very large leak, within a day it would empty out the freon. I've added dye and cannot see the leak anywhere, checked all the lines. I'm pretty sure it's under the evaporator core. So I gotta pull the core out and check it. Let me know when you do yours and if you've got any tips, i plan on cutting the plastic to make it quicker.

Where did you guys cut and what else do I need to remove from dash to pull evap? I’m gonna try get it done this Saturday and will try to take pics.

Gotta remove the phillips covering the core, there's like 6 or 8 i forgot. Then pull it out and under to expose the core

Right below the bolt that's to the left of the "B" there's a line in the plastic, that's where I cut. That same bolt, is going into a silver metal support, that might get in the way but you can squeeze by it.

Got another question...

So a few weeks ago i added Red Angel stop leak. I noticed some pink/red goo coming from the ac drip plug. Is this an indication that the evap is the cause of the leak? Isn't the AC system a closed environment and technically i should not have seeing this?

Im going to be renting gauges and vacuum pump. And buying 2 cans of refrigerant. Do i need to add oil or is that separate from the refrigerant? I dont know if the refrigerant bottle has oil in it or i need to add?

Yes, yes, no, and no. Pull the evap. Don't bother with the gauges or vacuum you already know you have a leak, if dye or red angel is leaking from drain plug coming out the fire wall it could only come from from the evap or the connection between the evap and thermal expansion valve. Probably the evap. Pull the evap.

in for results

Here is what I have. I still don’t know if the evap is the culprit as it looks like it spewed the remaining dye that was in the system. I can’t see any other leaks anywhere on the evap.

Or this could be all the dye I’ve used leaking here? Thoughts? Expansion valve?

wouldnt that mean the evap is leaking like many people expected.

Looks to me like you took it apart with pressure still in the system and it spewed everywhere! How is there dye all the way up on the top of the front of it? Anyway, replace the evap, thermal expansion valve and all oring in those connections, then change dessicant pack and associated orings, vaccum it down and refill. You are very close to having cold air.

I took the pressure off until I could hear no more. I heard a hiss when I took the evap off. Did you use an evap from local store or Denso?

If you heard a hiss when the evap came off, all that dye came out when you disconnected the evap. Contaminating any evidence of dye from a leak. I just used 4 season on the evap and txv.

Take your uv light and shine it inside the fins and the bottom front of the evap. Do you see dye in there? Or is the whole evap covered and fins drenched.

I’ll check tomorrow. Thanks the assist!!

How much is an OEM Evap core? I see a few aftermarket ones on ebay for $50 ish, wonder how good they are.

For $50 you can find out lol. I think list price on oem is 3-400, but I'm not sure who the original supplier is. I've used 4 season stuff on other cars, no problem, so I went with it on mine.

Denso $142 on Rock Auto.

I ordered the evap, expansion valve and receiver dryer from AutoZone and will be here Tuesday.

How did you remove the expansion valve? There’s some rubber around it and it’s stuck on pretty good. There’s some plastic clips that hold two lines together. Not sure how or if I need to remove them to get the expansion valve off? How do I remove without breaking?

I rented the light kit but I didn’t see any dye on the fins.

Just take the plastic clips off, use a pick or Jewelers screw driver, I forget if you pry the clips up or push down on them but a little fiddling and you get it. With the clips off push the whole thing through, pull off from the inside.

You can bend a paper clip (or similar) wire over into a horseshoe shape. Insert both ends into the two holes on the anchor clips and it will release. Then slide the tubes apart.
