The OEM pistons are more than strong enough. Have you seen them? The "seals" are just O-rings. I can't imagine there is anything special about theirs.
 
Just finished mine up and did the truck setting. Big improvement over stock. Seems more responsive. Not harsh at all. The drill bits included were slight smaller then advertised. .02-.03 smaller. Only hard part was getting the metal tube in and out. Really gets messy when you pull the valve body out. I had bought the trans goo to help hold the gaskets in place. Thanks for everyone’s input in this thread regarding the check balls and pictures. Made it way less confusing.
 
Yeah I think at this point with 20+ years and 150,000+ miles just about every one of these trans should be done. lol
I was debating back and forth on the drilling to the hot rod as you mentioned and decided not to. Since I don’t really wheel this on technical stuff here compared to California, I should have done it. Adjusted the line pressure about 7 years back and made a difference too.
