Againwow!! raffle gonna be![]()
Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but I went 4 years before I got something (last year).Sounds like its shaping up to be a stellar HIH. Raffle support indicates interest and growth from supporting vendors. Great work guys.
Ok so start the raffle earlier, let it run longer and pull more tickets..... (I'm 0 for 2 So I'm hoping I can increase my odds this year.)
So, I don't want to totally derail this thread, but I'll be buying tires for my LC soon and was looking at options.
It seemed last year that the majority of folks were running some variation of BFGs (I know they are great tires, I have had multiple sets on other vehicles).
Has anyone here tried running the Falken Wildpeak AT3s? My father in law is a mechanic and has mentioned being pretty impressed with Falken's offerings the last few years. I always hear about balancing issues with BFGs, on my Ram truck they took a ton of weight to balance so I have been comparing alternatives. The Falkens are cheaper but not enough to necessarily sway my opinion.
The Cruiser I rode along in last year had Duratracs, and they earned their Durafail nickname by the end of HIH, haha.
I'll probably go for 285/65/18 on my stock suspension Cruiser.
Hah, yes, I guess I probably did. I'll do some more shopping and see. I guess the possible balance issue had me concerned about KO2s, but most of what I read/experienced were with larger and heavier trucks (3/4 and 1 tons) and the 100 doesn't really compare in that weight range.I think you answered your own question though, if the falkens aren't cheap enough to sway you then the KO2's are the way to go.

I picked up the same one as well. I'm excited to see it installed on an LX soon!I just took advantage of the discount @kelly saad is running for HIH attendees. Pulled the trigger on a 1 piece hex grill with L logo. I think its gonna be mean!!! Thanks Kelly!!!
Why 285/65/18? I had that size in TerraGrapplers and was happy. But, 275/70/18 gave me a little more clearance and way more options at lower costs. For reference:
285/65/18: Wildpeak = $265, KO2 = $285
275/70/18: Wildpeak = $208, KO2 = $250
The 275/70/18 is darn near the perfect 33" tire size IMO with way more options and lower cost. I've taken my KO2 over every kind of terrain you can think of and been very happy.
Anyway, yes, KO2 were represented well at HIH. But, I also saw a few Ridge Grappler shod rigs, a few Cooper ST MAXX shod rigs, a few Wildpeaks and several General Grabbers all represented. I think all of those tires are excellent choices. As for the balance issue, I've never had one with my KO2s. Maybe I got lucky.
I need new shoes before HIH9 (50k+ on my current KO2) and am likely going up a size to 295/70/18 in the Wildpeak variety as they've gotten very good reviews and everyone I've spoken with locally seems to really love them.
