Sweet trip there. Wish I could have made it……..

Made a little progress on the new axle housing. I didn't like the way the skid plate fit so got out the torch and the hammer. Happy with the outcome it just takes forever to weld slowly to keep the heat down so I did some painting around the house.

Here's the anvil...1/2" thick and heavy as heck. I welded a hi lift jack base to it for driveway work.

I know you are strong but how do you move this thing? What is it 3/4” thick?
I'll tell you that with the current should injury there is a crap load of cuss words moving it...

I don't have a plasma cutter anymore since I lost it in a bet. Weird night that involved 2 hookers, a midget, an 8ball of cocaine and a bar of soap I'll tell you the story when we're on the trail in 2 years once the statute of limitations is up...with that said i got out the cutting torch to start on the brace.

Not sure I want to be on the trail with you after hearing THAT !!!

Don't go getting all shy now...I'll keep to the code.

What happens on the trail stays on the trail😉

May have had to do with not wanting to remove the bushings 😉

My experience is that little gap is inconsequential when it comes to sliding over rocks. More work, more time, diminishing returns on my investment.
Why didn't you cut the ends in so they would act as a slider right out over the bushing?

Looks great! and those RCV's will give lots of mental confidence...
It's hard to see the knuckle gussest. What did you end up doing? Mini truck set from Marlin? or??? Did you keep your drain plug?

I used a bottom skid plate, a front skid plate and the mini truck gussets top and bottom. I have some low profile plugs for when it's done. I'll paint it proper tomorrow but got a coat of chasis saver on there for now.

As I was waiting, I got the axle under the truck freed up. I'll swap hubs later this week, just waiting for the delta arms. If I get motivated I might paint the springs (nice paint might make me drive better?).

I'm pretty excited about the new axle shafts. Two trips ago I thought one of my birfs might be bad so if you remember I repacked it right before Sand Hollow and then of course it went clickety click but didn't blow up. It just means no more trips on bad birfs...
