Looking good Noah.
Are you going to do all the While you’re in there stuff.
Like Hydro assist. ?
And ARP hardware ?

Just got off the phone with @cruiseroutfitters they still have one set of rear RCV shafts on the shelf. One set plus gaskets are inbound. Through all this, I’m still thinking D60’s are the true answer.

I think you'll be alright for a bit longer? Axle swaps are so much work. I'm beginning to just envy guys who run what they brung

It’s a game we engage in not so different from the games others invest risk into. The real answer is revealed through trial and error. Calculations are the basis and a good one but anything can happen on any given day.

Yikes, that means 4 link front and rear? or maybe 3 link with a panhard and leafs in the back?

That means meaner axles…..

I've got a Dana 60, and as I'm sure you remember, they are HEAVY. In fact I'm going to take the tie rod from that truck and put it on the 80 as I got a .375 wall DOM for the D60 because it is beefy

Or don't run Nitros on the buggy lines, especially ones that you know are compromised ( twisted ) mine went in the junk pile as soon as I saw they were twisted.

;) If you feel you need Tons maybe it's time for a buggy 🤷‍♂️

I think you are on to something, an 80 based buggy like “half assed”. Yes……

Looks like pure fun!

I've got a torch and a bad attitude...drop your truck off on a Friday and it will be a sh*t ton lighter by Monday.

I believe this…… LOL

Best Friday Ever!

I want to take the tie rod of my K5 and use it on my 80 as it is 1.5" DOM as opposed to the baby DOM I am using now (on my second one and it is bent as well). My thinking is that when I mount the ram for hydro assist, I want it to be on the tie rod I will keep. Well, the shank on a D60 TRE is 7/8 and as you all know, the shank on a FJ80 TRE is 23MM x 1.5 which means I need to weld in new tube adapters which is no biggie as I need to cut down the tie rod anyway since it is too long (dana 60's are considerably wider). Why is it the best Friday ever

I called Ruffstuff to get tube adapters and the dude totally knew what I needed, had the parts in stock and then when I went to give him a CC number he said "hey man, did you know you have a credit" which was $8 more than I needed...

Best Friday Ever!

What to do with these nasty things? Replace them, rattle can, powder coat, just throw them back in? 4 years and they look like crap...I think I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow

I would chrome plate them……

Ok, new axle is almost all ready...I pulled the knuckles, swapped over the third member, painted the springs, and am stocked on the new axle shafts, just need to pull the tie rod off my K5 and wait for the new arms.

I added a few shims under the steering cap and with the new trunnion bearings should be good to go. I was taught that any scratch on a bearing means they get replaced.

Also, fun fact, apparently I replaced the studs with ARP's in the past so bonus...

Since I've already converted to part time 4wheel drive and removed the abs module, any reason not to cut off the wires that go to the abs sensor in the knuckle?

I suppose not. I removed my sensors and kept the entire system in case someone wants to buy the parts. Seems like a matter of personal preference.
