Window Rocket - who’s tried it? (2 Viewers)

Ordered mine today. Winter is nearly upon us and it’s difficult to teach the young ones not to play with the windows. This thread reads like an infomercial and I’m the next sucker…but I hope not and admittedly I’m a touch giddy in anticipation.

Designing products is never boring.

I've turned a page in Window Rocket kit development for all non-ABS cruisers and before I toss out all the prototypes and "almost products", I thought it would be interesting to display all the iterations that failed in some aspect up to this point.

From left to right are all the Window Rocket mount designs for FJ80's and RHD no ABS 80 series that did not work. Each part represents a lesson learned a long the way. Each failure made me a little bit smarter.

Some of these designs fit great, but they were beyond difficult to install. Some designs fit super in the cruisers I measured and tested them in, then failed miserably in another Cruiser of the same year, identical model, but featuring completely different wiring and attachment points under the kick panel.

Some of these mounts were to utilize self tapping screws. Turns out some folks despise self tapping screws.

All of the above mounts attemp to utilize factory Toyota mounting locations. Something big I learned a long the way is its not uncommon for these 30 year old vehicles to have other things attached to those mounting points be the owners. Or, even for those mounting points to be completely obliterated in favor of a firewall grommet for wiring.

So with a pretty thorough understanding of how Toyota laid out the under kick panel area on all versions of 80 series ever made, many, many hours crammed under 80 series dashes, and working with several awesome local 80 owners and listening to their feedback, I think we have the rough draft Window Rocket mount for all non-ABS cruisers.

For non-ABS cruisers, We're now using the mounting studs for the relay block used across every 80 series made. This greatly simplifies installation. This studs, although hard to see, are easy to reach with tools and don't require special breathing techniques or contortion skills to reach.

Special machined standoffs will replace the original nuts. The Window Rocket mounts way up high providing clearance for all wiring harness variations and the kick panel fits over all of it.

This is just the prototype. There are several changes in the design already, but I'm optimistic this general design will work great and get non-ABS Window Rockets to market very soon!

Thanks again for buying this product and bringing smiles to everyone who pushes an 80 series window switch!

RHD guy's, sorry, you'll have a little longer wait. Test fit our latest non-ABS RHD mounts last night and there's interference with the throttle pedal.

This will put me behind a couple weeks past the target of end of this month for releasing the RHD non-ABS kits.

Thanks for your continued patience and support!
Awesome.

Can you make something similar that boosts the speed of the windshield wiper motors? LOL

I installed my Window Rocket this weekend and it is as advertised. The only bummer is the drivers side regulator binds and takes several attempts to close the window. No fault of the window rocket but did help to reveal the deficiency in that regulator. Purchase Window Rocket with confidence.

Thanks for posting this! It's really cool to see the evolution of the design. As someone who directly benefits from the engineering of others and all of the R&D efforts that they undertake (both in my personal and professional life) it's always neat to see somebody's progress and learning curve through the evolution of design. Well done and I'm patiently waiting for the final iteration. Looking great! Keep up the strong work!

Love the product, significant improvement. Thank you for a job well done!

We get a fair share of rain here in Oregon. I have not noticed a problem with wipers in the 80's I've owned. The wipers are very fast in my 97.

A known problem for many.. I guess it depends on the condition/age of your motor and use (and sometimes lucl). Many complain about them here in Australia too. I've had 2 motors and both perform slow (I bought another, assuming the first one was on it's way out). First thing I need to do is test voltage supply before doing anything else.

The original factory grease is known to go hard and stale with age. Also, the glue from the interal magnets fails and they need to be stuck back down into original locations.

Generally once these issues are resolved, they'll work like new again. I'm going to dismantle one of mine in a week or so, I'll create a new thread with images and what I do to address it.

Oh and new blades and a clean windscreen help too!

I would make sure the window glass is adjusted to spec before installing the rocket. I think the guy in the video adjusted glass and installed new runs judging by how smoothly that window opened and closed. I’ve had my rear glass pull out of track by the weak factory motors when they were out of adjustment. The extra power would definitely pull them out more quickly so be aware.

Adjusting the glass and new window runs made the windows work adequately for me in all seasons. But that window speed is amazing and tempting.

I bit. So far the product works as advertised. Speed of the windows improved greatly and my passenger rear window, which the po glued into place out of alignment, and has always stuck halfway up, now powers through the bind and goes up first time. I hope the rocket is a long lasting fix.

Thanks, Pete. Now I have another project to add to the list. Looks like I'm going to need more grease

It appears to be a 12V to 15V 30A DC to DC Step Up Regulator: Example $65.54

The extra $229 is for the bracket, relay, and relay extension.

Amps will stay the same, but voltage increases by a couple of volts = increased power. P = VI.

The moonroof is also powered by the Power Relay.

I mean, you could just install that Step Up Regulator earlier in the 30A FL POWER circuit, but other things will see the added voltage like the seat motors and door locks.

I honestly doubt a few extra volts will be an issue.

I mean, I might install it right at the battery for the 30A FL POWER circuit...
Above is my first post on this thread.

I decided to purchase one. It shipped quickly and arrived quickly.

It is legit. I will be installing soon, probably today.

The wiring looks high quality and larger than OEM. I wondered why the ground on the relay socket wasn't the only ground used and I think because it might be undersized.
