Well good thing you are not doing it the nv4500 swap with ls isn't proven.. the amount of workto make it happen is something you need time and lots of fab skills.... ask me how I know have a customer's 94 Fzj80 in my shop for a while now....

Intake coming together. Just need to trim the elbow.

Bang! Getting so close to trying to turn it over, I will be trying to start it by the end of this week. We’ll see if she runs! I’ll be tricking the NSS but, we’ll be testing other components.

Going to either spin the water pump neck, or get another as suggested in this thread. Not sure the straight up neck will work either with drive by cable. I’d really like to spin that neck to the passenger side more. Anyone ever tried that?

I was going to mention the neck in your last post but couldn't really tell by the angle if it was the long or short neck. . .I just bought the short one instead of trying to deal with it.

I assume it’ll fit a 99-00 LQ4? I’ll give it a shot. Hope the thermostat housing is the same. Didn’t know this gotcha till too late. No biggie.

It does, nearly the same as the LQ4 factory pump besides that hose output on the top.

Well, something I’m absolutely sick to my stomach over is, while trying to tighten down one of the spark plugs, pretty sure it was cross thread or stripped. I never put the plug in while it was off the motor. So I do t know if they were gooned up before. So I’ve got to try a thread chaser, or pull the head and out a helicoil in. Which they make a ton of kits to do this. Such a pain, since I was riding high off the momentum. But end of the day, only be a few days set back if I pull the head off to repair if I can’t get them to clean up enough while it’s on.

So add to the list of gotchas, along with marks adapter, better double check the threads on the aluminum heads. Pulled these heads from a different motor out of junkyard, so lesson learned on that for sure. Got to verify stuff like that.

I have not done an ls, but I have done most of the plug holes on several Ford V10's. This is easy to do with the head on. In the vehicle.

I have found the timesert kits are not good. The other brands that use thicker inserts hold much better.

Be thankful it's just a spark plug thread. The gm aluminum block ls, atlas and Northstar engines have a comically sh1tty head bolt design. I've made a lot of money machining out broken headbolts and installing steel inserts in the decks of those engines.

I was able to get the threads fixed. I went ahead and took the head back off. I figured it would give me the best chance for success. Since I knew I needed to get to the inside portion. I started with just a thread chaser, which I could get through easy, but a spark plug would still get caught up. So I thought I would have drill it tap and out in an insert. So I looked for the right drill bit. Didn’t have one. So I said screw it, and figured I couldn’t mess it up worse, the tool for the insert, had a more aggressive thread cleaner, it may be an actual tap size for a M14. I had to go from inside and then out side and finally could get it through. And finally, cleaned out. I figured it may have removed too much material. But it worked great! Plug screwed in easy, no excessive play, and torque up nice. So, now I get to throw the head back on tomorrow. Got to clean out the head bolt holes first. Had enough for today.
