Nice work skinner,i can't wait to see this finished.
Now ive sucked up ive got a question
I went too the toyota dealer in oz today, asked for new door handles, rear tailgate seals, inner and outer door belt strips, windscreen seal, tailgate glass seal.
She phoned me later and said if its all available $1500
She also said tomorrow morning she will check what is avail or not, while on the phone she said well i'll just check one item as an example of availability, checked upper tailgate seal, not available.
I can maybe make do with some aftermarket seals but im thinking some items that are not avail in oz might be in usa,and i might even save a few dollars, did you get all new rubbers, can you give me an idea of what is still available or not.

Gold, I am installing all new weatherstrips, seals, hardware, etc. Majority of mine came from Toyota dealer. Honestly, location shouldn't matter. The toyota dealer (at least in the states) should have access to worldwide stock. Case in point, a number of my seals came from Japan stock.

Thanks skinner, get that thing together, its gonna be nice.
She is calling me today with more details on the parts,i might have to try cruiser dan for a couple of the seals.

LOL! Nice!

I'm hoping to work on it tomorrow. Gonna start "shaving" the old jute from the roof. I also am needing to strip a bunch of hardware (back to the original cadmium) and paint some in order to finish installing the tailgate, hood, & fenders.

Pics please of the process? How do you strip it back to the cad w/o harming it??

I use a chemical stripper. . .can't recall the brand. Any means of "mechanical" removal (wire wheel, flapper, etc.) will pull the cad right off.

Update:

Got the hatch hung & hardware installed (waiting for a 2nd set of hands to install the tailgate):

Front end is also coming together:

Started stripping the old doors to reassemble the "new" doors:

Installed sound deadening on the outer skin. I'll do the inner panel after I spray the innards with fluid film:

I've also been busy shearing the roof. . . PITA

Other than that, I've been rounding up all my parts for reassembly. I had parts in the house garage, the extra bedroom, my shop,& the attic. They've now all been accounted for (I think:hhmm:):

No, it's one of the molded skins that covers the existing IP. I've used them before on some other trucks & they always work out pretty well.

For the roof, I've got a brand new headliner. I'll be re-insulating the roof with dynamat of something similar & then I think I'm going to install the new headliner on my own. I'll be sure to take pics.

Great Build! I installed "damplifier" instead of dynamat (I've used both) on my 80, works great! They have a bunch of product for heat reflection and vibration dampening:

Damplifier - Acoustic Vibration Dampening Mat

Keep up the great work!

BUMP!! 7 days is up, show us some weekend progress!

*If, however you spent it with family I understand. My tailgate spring and brake kit is still sitting in the garage.. LOL :D

Could you do me a favor? I've always wondered where the hinges to the hear hatch lift gate attach on the inside(under the headliner).

You see, my lift gate is in need of some adjusting and I think I need to adjust it from those hinges.

Could you maybe post a pic or maybe send me one seeing as how you have the headliner off and the lift gate attached?

Thanks!

P.S.: Someone else may want to see it for future reference :wrench:

I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance; I've been working like crazy. I did make some progress this weekend though. All the doors are deadened. Front floor is deadened.

No problem, I'll snap some photos next time I'm in the shop. Brandon

Bump. Snow hold or what?

Anything else taken care of? I figure I should ask now as I know Dad's w/ wives and little girls don't get to play with their vehicles next weekend (Valentine's Day). :p

Not much for me here, except I finally took care of replacing the 4Runner tailgate spring finally, sooo nice to not have to forcefully hold or lift it as much anymore..
*Excluding the brake job I handed over to Yodaman last week.

Roof?

Excellent work. Man my(your) list of ideas keeps growing. What did you use to take all the fuzzies off the roof on the inside?? That has been an ongoing project for me. Hopefully some kind of solvent??

Is there a finished product?:)
I really want to see it because I need the inspiration.

Skinner-on the dash cover-did you get that from $OR? Does it just 3M tape to the OE pad?
