Ha! You said Whitney punches and I was thinking those dinky hand held things that punch 1/8" holes. That bench mounted one is much nicer.

For inspiration. We managed to patch up 1/2 a BJ42 in a weekend a few years ago. Started on Friday night and painted on Sunday. The photos are here...

Ok, Tuesdays progress. Just a series of pics showing the repair in the floor just behind the drivers seat.

First pic is with all the rust cut away. Looks intimidating but I just go one step ar a time.

Next is the part I showed earlier tacked in

Next is the small patch to the inner fender in place.

Next is a two part patch of the rear floor panel in that front corner. First I did the small bit by the inner fender

Then made a piece for the rest

And tacked it in

All welded and ground

Then I made the piece to cover the rest

And welded it in

Then the outer skin patch

And the finished repair ( of that area anyway)

From the looks of things, you were the guy to take this project on, great work!

I'm always impressed with your finished work. You need to put on a clinic some day on patching from start to finish. What tools your use for grinding and sanding. The work just looks awesome!

Ha Ha, I just laughed as I read this and thought of the Jonny Cash song one peice at a time ;)

Good work saving another good truck!

Edit: what are you going to do with the "borderline stuff" like on the exterior at the seam between the rocker and the rear quarter panel, or on the lower rocker panel?

Thanks T

Maybe a tech night with the RMLCA would work. You will have to come to town

Borderline: the rocker/quarter seam I'll fix cuz its easy. I may have to do all the door bottoms too. Little spots in the open will get sanded and sealed

tell me when and i will book a plane ticket...
Thanks T

Another workout day so only two hours in the garage. Made up few of the medium sized ribs at work to use on the vertical patches in the inner fenders. Welded one in.

Made up a two rib top patch as well. Hard to see here but it's twisted all to hell from pressing in the ribs.

Got as far as welded in before curfew. I'll have to finish in next time.

I'm going to stay late at work tomorrow and make a rear sill and maybe some patches for the back corners of the inner fenders. Two large ribs and a small one on each. I also have to re-install the roll bar to locate the front set of holes before destructing the rear rust. Have to brace the fenders together too. They have spread apart about 3/8" as seen in the rear doors when closed.

I have three rib tools. One for each rib length on the inner fenders. They belong to Ryan at Hilltop. He had them made years ago when he had us try to repro the fenders. They dont work quite right and warp the material pretty bad. But for just a couple of ribs in a patch they work ok.
