4 core rad
rebuild the water pump
serious flush of the block
proper gauges

????

How do you do a serious flush of the block?

Ive heard of guys that get them "tanked" where they are sent off and blasted in and out in a cleaning tank, and there was a thread somewhere, where somebody ran an oversized inline filter in the coolant system and got a lot of casting sand out of it, but other than pulling the motor or adding filters or running some chemical through it, what is the best method?

Nice video Kevin, so you had like 2 hours of sleep and did the rest of the drive? I woulda ended up being a statistic if I tried that. Some of us need our beauty sleep eh!

not really sure what what is the best
but
this is what i do ...
drain the block, fill with water (best performed on a day above 0C)
drive to local car wash,
remove heater line (either works)
leave rad cap on
take high pressure hose on rinse and insert in rubber hose and give'r.
when the water coming out the other end is clear then reverse and shoot in the brass fitting and let the water come out the rubber hose end.
when water is clear again, remove rad cap.
plug rubber hose with finger and let the brass end have a blast.
when water coming out the rad open is clear then reverse to the rubber side and finger over the brass side.
when water is coming out clear stop pressue, replace the rad cap.
give the two outlets the treatment again.
then reinstall the heat hoses.

drive home, drain and replace thermostate. fill to prefered antifreeze mixture.
done.

works for me.

Congrats Kevin. Let me know if/when you'd want to go wheeling.

As soon as she's road legal I'll be looking for wheeling partners. I'll warn you tho, she's got only 31" tires on her so nothing too crazy. Plus I haven't wheeled since the early 90's so I'll have to learn my lines again.

Yeah, sounds funny on fast forward but if I run it at regular speed it gets pretty boring. Airline is Westjet. I won't fly any other unless I have to. Especally Air Canada.

Perhaps a voice over will male the video interesting...
I remember the first time i drove my cruiser home, 17 years ago, never drove a "jeep" kind af thing en at that point the excitment strated, never left me.....

Regards,
Mike

Sounds perfect. O got AB plates just a couple days ago. I haven't done much wheeling this year and am itching to go. :)

Hey! I drove that road in a video game once! I recognize the avalanche tunnels! :D

no, he's right you do make it look easy. Nice match on the stamped rib on the tire well, Im curious as to where you'll start and where you'll stop with all the rust holes.

Alright Kevin, here's the deal.

You must drive that truck to the next bridge weekend on Aug. 14 and 15.

There, now you have a goal, you can fix as many holes as possible before then.

Looking good by the way.

<shaking head>
amazing is all i can say ...
i like 45 kevins goal, that will stop you from getting to carried away.

Well, either way as long he keeps posting pictures I'm happy!

I will be in BC for that weekend so I wont be able to attend.

That was one of my goals. The other was to be able to use the 42 during my week off work at the end of Aug. for some kamping with the kids. My wife has to work so I can get some of the city out of them.

I actually shouldn't put this in writing but I intend to be done the rust repair, at least enough for inspection, by the end of this long weekend.... so Aug 6th. There. I said it, so shall it be done. That gives me 5 weeknights plus three full days.

We'll see.

Damn, your not mucking around! You've had the cruiser for like a week and your already attacking the cancer in it! Your an animal, great work!:cheers:

Loving my garage right now

Only two hours in the garage tonight. By the time I walk the dog, get a workout in and eat supper it's 7:00pm. I have a self imposed curfew of 9:00pm in order to hit the pillow for 10:00. If I don't I'm useless by 2:00pm the next day.

Tomorrow will be better. No workout.

Pics;
The rust fully cut away leaving good metal to weld to. Cleaning it took most of the two hours.

Then I made the first piece that will go back in. A section of the front floor pan.

I cut it to shape with my Beverly shear and punched a few spot weld holes with one of my Whitney punches.

I made the offset with a hammer and some material under it.

I got it tacked in before curfew
