Step Sliders For Toyota Land Cruiser

These are more money but they look like running boards; work like sliders. Good happy medium.

The problem with the OEM running boards is not that they are uncool, or limit clearance or whatever. All those things can be dealt with. The problem is they're attached to the body. If they seriously snag on anything they're going to torque and rip at the body of the truck.

Sliders mount to the frame and will not do this. I found a set used for $400 on 'Mud. Drove a couple hours to pick 'em up.

Then I spent $750 on a new exhaust to get the pipe up and over the frame rail but we won't talk about that. We'll just say I got sliders for $400.

If you're not in a hurry, I'll part way with mine for $100 when I decide to pull the trigger on some sliders. Not sure when that will be, but probably in the next few months. I'm located in Lexington.

Road trip to Colorado and you can have mine.

I wouldn't pay for OEM side steps, but that's me. Sooner or later you'll get a pair for free, and they are crappy anyway for all the reasons described above. If you don't need rocker protection, run without them. If you need rocker protection, get sliders. The middle ground are Land Cruiser Phil's lightweight rails. They look good and are cheaper and lighter than sliders. They also offer less protection. I don't have any affiliation with LCP, or get any benefit for saying so. Just making a suggestion.

I actually don't see them on his website, but contact him if you're interested.

Hey, I got a free 2 inches of lift by removing the running boards! Looks like it anyway; and its probably good for 1-2 mpg's, too! They are sitting behind the fence waiting for @stevenmichael to come get them. I knew I would need those stock front mudflaps I found in the junkyard!
