Found this site while searching the net for build ideas. Great stuff. I'm starting next week with a trip to my mechanic for a full assessment of what will be needed to make the truck 100% for long trips. Also plan on bumpers, sliders, suspension kit, Aussie locker, a roof rack....the list is long.

My first LC, though I frequently borrowed a friends '87 '60. My SWMBO* bought us an E350 Bug-out/Adventure Van/tow vehicle at the same time my daily/tow pig Dodge gave up the goose. I still needed a reliable daily, that was capable of hauling Toyota MR2 racecar parts or our pitbulls and our foster/rescue dogs, while surviving Houston weather, roads, and my immature requirement to be able to run over curbs/parking stops.
We agreed I could get anything I liked as long as it had leather and she wouldn't be embarrassed climbing out of it at one of the oilfield events we attend with our colleagues.

So I've been driving a Jeep for the last 16 years. It is highly modified, extremely reliable and will go anywhere, but there is just no room for the family. So I decided it was time to move on from my Jeep..... sigh. I was looking for something larger than my TJ that could carry four comfortably along with camping gear and still hold its own off road albeit not necessarily in the all out crawler fashion of my Jeep. The vehicle had to be reliable, have live axles, and of body-on-frame construction. So after some research I decided on a LC as the replacement for my TJ.

1. Year and model: 1995 FZJ80
2. Name of owner: Ken
3. Name of rig: PIMA (pain in my a$$)
4. Mileage: 230k
5. Mods...if any: OME 2.5 - 3" on 33" BFG's
6. How the truck is used: Camping, desert exploring, & occasionally as a DD

I've included a shot of my beloved Jeep. Alas, it is time to move on.

So I picked up a LC with factory lockers about two weeks ago and have already experienced the PHH. Wow! What a pain. In the future I will add HD springs to the front to level the stance, along with a winch, bumpers, sliders etc... and a set of 35's. I just have to keep myself in check or else I'll end up with a terrific trail rig that's no longer very practical on the road. Still looking for that balance.

First impressions of a 20 year old FZJ80 from a long time Jeep guy: very comfortable, rides smooth, strong engine (compared to the Jeep 4.0), leather is a nice step up, same gas mileage as my TJ on 35's, will do 80+ MPH on the highway easily without breaking a sweat, the axles seem to be pretty beefy
Concerns: lack of aftermarket support, tiny tie rod, limited articulation, availability of some serious sliders (I'm a bit wary of the bolt-ons but that appears to be the industry standard for LCs) potential for HG failure in the future

I've had many 4x4s, but I've always wanted an FJ! By the way, I've found lots of helpful tech, advice, and write-ups on here, which is greatly appreciated.

1. Year and model: 1991 FJ80
2. Name of owner: Dan
3. Name of rig: Brunhilde
4. Mileage: 140564
5. Mods...if any: Just fluids, tune-up and front knuckle rebuild so far, but EGR delete, LandTank seat mod, and shifter flip will be SOON.
6. How the truck is used: DD, expedition/camping vehicle

I've been looking to get back into an 80 Series as soon as I sold my last one. This is the only vehicle I've truly missed and had instant sellers remorse once I signed the title. The Tundra has kept me at bay for the last 6 years and I am super jealous of my wife's 120 series so I thought I better pony up and get back on a gas gusslin pony once again. Just purchased it last week for dirt cheap and plan to add a few bells and whistles once I get it solid mechanically.

1. Year and model: 1994 FJZ80
2. Name of owner: tBone
3. Name of rig: BB-80 (figured I'd take it before someone else does)
4. Mileage: 174-ish
5. Mods...if any: Just purchased it but there will be some coming SOON. Previous owner or his kid put in a bumping stereo which I do appreciate.
6. How the truck is used: Daily driver, snowboard and KTM hauler, as well as exploration and camping vehicle throughout the Rocky Mountains.

Can't wait to get my plates tomorrow!
