I am going to re-painting my turn signals on my '76. I need new base grommets but they are no longer available. Has anyone here made there own with some rubber gasket material? Just wanted to see if someone had already done this. Thanks...

There is no base grommet on the OEM turn signal light.

Referring to part #5 on pic below, apparently it was offered at one time.

That's odd. Didn't know that. CCOT sells the aftermarket version, and one of their pitches is that it comes with the gasket while OEM does not. Personally I wouldn't sweat that gasket. My truck is original and it doesn't have it.

I have a pair of these with the original (and very crusty!) original base gasket as per the above diagram.

I used Rustoleum Charcoal Grey to paint mine as a PO sprayed them white, yes white-came out excellent!

My 1976 back in 1980 had the gasket on them. For my older round ones I was going to get that rubber handle dip stuff and dip the edge in it, or get some of that rubber rope with a slot in it and wrap it. It needs something.

Rubber rope with a slot in it would be great, do you have a source for that where I could find some?

Sarge, the door trim worked perfect. Very pleased with how they turned out, thanks for the recommendation! I have 17 ft left if anyone needs to make a grommet! Using a heat gun was the key, it softened up the trim piece and when it cooled down was perfectly conformed to the signal. Total cost of new lights was about $40 with paint, new lens and grommets.

That looks REALLY nice.

A buddy of mine ghetto-fabbed a base grommet from a wheel cylinder boot.:hillbilly:

Can you tell me where you bought the door trim used for these grommets?

Or maybe a picture?
