I've a second set of hands coming tomorrow afternoon for the distributer installation. More importantly a second set of eyes. Just running through a mockup of the cap to make sure I had the order down. D.U.I. recommends a little Dielectric Grease on the plug boots. Couldn't find anything REF: Dielectric Grease on the cap plugs.

Thanks @wngrog for the "tip" on the adapter. High cotton!

Last but certainly not least.

One new temp sensor installed. Had to add a little KROIL to the second sensor adapter. By the looks of it, it's probably never been out of the block. I'll let it soak overnight and try it again in the AM.

So, in summary ^^^^knocked out a few of the less glamourous more mundane, routine "upgrades today". Supposed to be 70* tomorrow. If so, that garage door is coming up!!

Those cables are the stuff…..will last fo eva
cant wait to see your DUI install…..I’m next

Something tells me that you shouldn't be using thread tape on that sensor.

I could very well be wrong about that though.

I was told long ago the threads will cut the tape and create the needed path. Shrug. I always ohm my sensors after install to make sure there’s continuity.

I didn't think your supposed tor use thread tape on anything.

The great thread tape debate.

What I know: This is for the temp sensor I'm using for the gauge cluster. I still want to use my original gauge. I haven't installed the sniper sensor yet. The sensor adapter that came out of head had thread tape on it.

Assumptions: The adapter is an NPT thread???

What I don't know: All the above^^^.

I've always used a little tape on NPT. If I'm wrong for God's sake don't tell the Mrs, it would shatter her opinion of me.

This is the sensor and sensor adapter for the Sniper. The sensor came with the Sniper kit and the adapter is from Redline. The adapter, I believe is NPT. Its identical to the adapter I used for the analog temp gauge.

I think this is what Holley is using on the sensor threads. I'll give them a call today to get the lowdown.

Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant is a medium strength anaerobic sealant with PTFE for tapered pipe threads. This sealing compound is of a white, creamy paste consistency. The high lubricating properties of this compound prevents galling on pipe threads and fittings. It will provide immediate low pressure sealing and allow for the readjustment of fittings shortly after assembly. After 72 hours the joint is sealed to pipe burst pressure.

That sounds like the stuff I use.

Ok , so phase one of the D.U.I. install. Pulling some of the no longer needed wiring. I'm standing on the shoulder of giants here. I've read through and digested (read stolen) all the best ideas, techniques and procedures from the forum. What I didn't do was document visually the entire procedure.

What I couldn't capture very well was visualizing BTDC off of the fly wheel. It was just crap lighting, and I couldn't get a free hand down to show it properly.

Really can't see it very well due to the "patina" but, there is a line where the RB lined up at BTDC. OK, just pick one, there's a few...

D.U.I. installed. Well, it's in the correct slot.

OK, so it's in but not complete. 1st point of contention: The kit, when you buy it, does not come with a gasket, you may need one maybe not. In my case we cut one from a piece of gasket material to get it to seat just right, 2nd point, the kit, when you buy it, does come with a hold down clamp but, it doesn't come with a bolt long enough to work with the clamp. I tried to reuse the original, but it was to no avail. So, I'm off to the local hardware for a bolt long enough to hold the Dizz in place via the new clamp.

It took a couple of attempts (read more than ten) to get it to properly seat, but it's in.

I still need a connector and wire, of equal gauge, to run from the 12V switched, to the distributer, plant the plug wires, set the timing and hope for the best.

This can be a one-man job if your very proficient (IE read brail, have a 6th sense or have an intuitive grasp of very finite mechanical movements) otherwise, I do recommend a second set of hands. Just bumping the system around via the key is enough to warrant the extra digits.

So, this evening's activities (about an hour) were mostly making sure the wiring diagram, a de-smoged engine sans ignitor and the electrical acumen of a ground pounder all lined up and were in synch.

Still need to make a pilgrimage to the big city for wire, connectors and a refill on the mini fridge.

More to follow....Humble apologies for the crappy photo's, not the digits I'd hoped to produce....

Jeff

If it makes you feel any better, the last time I pulled the dizzy out to detail part of my engine, I reinstalled it several times until I was sure-sure.

It is not a thing to be undertaken lightly, and I tell everyone who buys a dizzy from me to CALL if there are ANY questions.

It's the consequence to inexperience ratio that makes me nervous . But what the heck, it's only the original motor. What's the worst that could happen!!??

I think this very thought all to often!
