I'm a bit younger , although quickly learning age isn't really measured by years - but in reality is measured in miles and experience . As much as I hate to admit - recent commercials are gaining interest despite my hatred for marketing . At the age of "knowing how do to things" and any general joint pain relief voodoo is starting to intrigue , despite knowing better that most don't work . Even at an early age in the 60's one could see the general shift in society - watching the evening news with Dad and having to sit through somber silence for unexplained reasons got my attention despite my age . I remember being ordered to "take you sister to her room" meant she wasn't old enough for the war-infused news that Mr. Cronkite was intent on delivering . Later in life I understood why Dad would sometimes lean forward , hoping to catch a glimpse of his half-brother in the Navy and I quickly learned not to ask what Dad was so interested in seeing .Times really were changing , indeed...

I remember my day of bold announcement of joining Uncle Sam's Misguided Children - Dad's utter silence was deafening , even little sis knew better than to utter a single word . He never wanted me to grow up and be a mechanic like him , maybe this was a chance at a better career for me since we didn't have the income for further education - he simply asked for more detail -
"Aircraft Mechanic , EXT" I replied - might as well dropped a nuke in the living room , the result may have been less hurtful .

Mounted the passenger side Ambi door. The alignment isn't "perfect" but the door(s) function. Note the "rats nest" hanging down under the rear chassis Pics 1/2.

Rats nest...I may have to turn this over to a professional..I've been putting this off for weeks. Time to pay the piper..

I gave up on the rats nest at the rear of 44 and paid @Coolerman to build me a new rear harness, with a few extras. It's on it's way back to me now, but I'm sure it's perfect.

Im anxious to pull the rest of my rear harness out, diodes and miles of electrical tape and mixed colored wires when I install the new harness.

I saw that on your thread...You may be the smartest guy I know. I'm ordering a fog light harness from him 1st of the month, probably should order a rear harness as well if he is still building..

Early in the thread I bought a rear mat for the mule...I like it. Seems rugged, easy to clean etc etc. I wanted a matching set of front floor mats to "compliment" the rugged capability of the tub. Trouble is, I can't buy them to match.

So, way back when, I decided I'd make a set..Worked on a template this afternoon. It's rough at the moment, but I'm getting it dialed in. Few picks to show the progress..1st draft, more to follow...

Keep in mind the template is a 1/8" target backer (it's rigid), so it doesn't lay perfect and appears a little "short" in the photo.

Added a photo of the material I will be using to make the front mats. Gives you a better idea of the matching front rear concept. I am using a front "mat" (2nd pic) that covers the transmission hump. The mats I am cutting out will be used in conjunction with this mat as well..

Shocks arrived today. Went with the Bilstein (5125 series). Performance for my particular application and cost were the final decision criteria. Everything is in place IOT move forward on the spring swap...

When I laid out my front floor mat patterns, I used some old unused 24x36 blueprint paper I had laying around.....Newspaper taped together works very well for this too. Learned that trick watching a guy hand cut window tint from newspaper patterns for my Audi and Merc, then used a razor blade to trim the edges.....but that is just one way to skin-a-deer, as there are many others!

Looking good!

Glad to see all that arts and crafts training you got in 4th to 6th grade being put to such practical use. Huzzah!

CHungas,I just did the same thing today and yesterday.I cut a template for half inch floor felt barrier insulation(with aluminium on the bottom side)Ordered from home depot while ago..covered my hump with it too and passenger floor too-basically made one big mat out of it.it was PIA to figure it out.I made it higher-about 4 inch above top of kick vent for better heat protection. Then bought in Autozone- Garage floor utility mat(3,5 ft x 6 ft)-39,-$ something between rubber and linoleum with diamond plate texture(easy to cut with scissors) and made another template just the floors without trans.hump.On top of it I lay aussie mat from ccot I have.(same as yours). My left pc of the diamond mat covers back part of trans.hump which aussie mat don't cover...It all looks pretty good...than I will put a basic car mat under my feet.Only drawback of this system is I am worry about-moisture get under it and will start to rust...If it will I will probably only use a floor mats without felt insulation and see...I wish I have a digital camera or smartphone to take a picture ...You did great job on your 40...watching your thread for a while...good luck Mike

Yep...Good call. The initial pattern I used was cut from brown stock paper. I transferred it from the brown stock to the rigid target backer IOT afford a better trace on the floor mat material. Initial cut will be with extra material. Doing this so I can trim as required. Measure twice, cut once..!

Hey Mike..Thanks! Yeah man, you need a camera. Looking forward to seeing your design on the floor mats..! I used the insulated backer on my tub too. Going to keep a close eye on it for H20..

Wow, you guys must know how to type faster than the hunt-n-peck method that I know. I was really enjoying your summer at Gramdma's and the replies you got. Next thing I know a whole page had happened. I'm very close to the same age as Danny and concur with him, you do a fantastic job of keeping up with the tales of Patrick F. McManus. I used to have a subscription to Outdoor Life eons ago, and the one thing I always really enjoyed was the monthly story by Patrick McManus.

I know this isn't tech, but I've said it before and I have to repeat myself, I enjoy your thread, and the occasional side trips you take. If it is OK with you I would like to send your summer at Grandma's story to some friends of mine. They are a bit "wiser" in years than I am, and I think your story will bring back some good memories for them.

I just had to reply to your side trip, now I have to find reverse and finish catching up with "the Mule's" refurbishment.

Jeff:

While I'm older than you by more than a little, your memories bring back the days of my youth. My hair is gone, my eyes are blurry and my joints ache. But, I can still smell the bacon you describe so well!!

You should make a career out of writing... you do it so well and appear to love doing it!!

:"Real ponies don't go oink" should be required reading. Grommets are optional. But, I do get on a ramble every once in awhile..
