During the tear-down process, I did not split the thermostat housing to check the thermostat...Before I headed "up-town" to the auto parts store this AM, I decided to have a "look see"at the thermostat. Brought it in and boiled it to ensure satisfactory performance...All systems were go...! Cleaned up the old remaining gasket material and re-installed...:banana:

Primary mission for today was to dialing in the cooling system..

The ole' mule was bone dry for the better part of a year, save for a few mad dashes in and out of the garage this spring. Picked up a "burp kit" from my new found friends at NAPA for $28 and change. Walmart, pronounced Wahhlmaht in the native dialect, had the same kit for $25. I calculated the extra $3 was well worth avoiding the super store during the "mad season"...I imagine every spandex clad, dimple knee-d Goddess of the feed store would be wheeling a buggy today.

Pretty straight forward kit. Great stocking stuff-er for your Mrs, if you haven't already bought her a Ginsu skinning knife or some Mosey oak lingerie.

I loosened the upper radiator hose and filled the radiator using the "drip-less" kit. As soon as I had a small stream exiting the upper radiator connection I re-attached the hose and continued slowly feeding anti-freeze into the radiator. Left a couple inches in the hopper.

Fired up the ole' mule and let the kit earn it's keep. Allowing for the minor spill from the upper hose, I used approx three gallons of antifreeze including adding 1/2 tank to the overflow reservoir.

:banana:Trimmed the floor mat and re-attached the gear shift and added the inner boot. I shot the gear shift with a coat of flat black a couple of days ago.

Trimmed the floor mat and added the inner boot for the T-case. Added T-case leather shifter cover. All test fit. I need new hardware before final installation.

After ten minutes at idle...All indicators are in the normal range..:clap::clap::clap:

Maybe a tweek here or there, but for the most part the engine bay essentials are buttoned up. Silicon heater hose works like a charm. After 10 minutes and both heaters WO, the hose is only warm to the touch. Front heater, after it's earlier re-hab, spits out hot air via the previously used vent tubes. Closed cell foam is functioning and the heater motor (forward motor) is kicking out some air!! Aft heater is functioning as it should. Should have a warm cabin once the top and rear doors are on (now not so much)..

Ran the mule up to operating temp for ten minutes this past Friday. Going to take it up to twenty minutes today IOT check for leaks. Looking at the cork gaskets in particular. I cleaned up the block and added new gaskets early last year. Just want to make certain everything is still ship shape. Had a question about the antifreeze. It's not "Toyota Red" it's more like "Valvoline Pink", just looked red in the yellow hopper of the drip-less burp kit....

Looking good! I like the red coolant as well, but that is pure visual color choice to me......not that you really need it, but it is good to always have a back-up, part number #16471-56030 ($6 part) ;)
 
:banana: Goofed off most of the morning with little supervision and nary a reason to venture out into the big city. I did hazard a trip the auto parts store to look for some battery terminal covers. The covers I found are pretty good size but I think they will work as intended. Picked up a can of terminal spray also. I have some left over Dielectric grease that I'll "Dual prime" with just for giggles.....

Ahh..That's not going to happen this year..I think my over overstated zealous optimism was poking through the understated reality of the "face lift" process...But, I think I bought at least another year with the face-lift before I really need to consider the cab.

Spent some time today trying to dial in the carb. Idling in the garage due to rain (no top) it's hard to get it just right. I need to take it out and run it a bit to get a better feel. Very good throttle response with no hesitation or coughing ( good sign). Seemed to cold start well with two or three pumps of the pedal and full choke. It needed about a 1/2 choke and pedal on the floor to "hot start". Fuel in the sight glass is about 1/2 or just below. I covered the carb and let it die. No "racing" before it quit, so I think I am good with the vacuum. Still need to throw a timing light on it. I replaced the valve seals the 1st week I owned it. I was a little worried about it sitting for so long but everything seem to be operating as designed (at least at idle)....

Going to soak the spring pins again with PB..Saturday may be the day I start with the spring replacement. I have not ordered shocks yet. Spoke to Kurt about OME's. May go that route..

One small electrical gremlin thus far. Horns don't work...It's on the punch list for sorting out. Any words of wisdom from the gallery would be appreciated...

One last pi$$ an moan. I realized I never received the hood prop back from the painter...Par for the course...

One last thing this evening..Scored a set of "Waldes" snap ring pliers for $10. Came with the following: 01,02,03,04,05,06,#24, & THREE #21.

10 pliers IN ALL. 1$ a piece..

You'll be ready to go to the big city for cherry limades at Sonic very soon. Then some chunky fella in camo will tell you " nice jeep "!
 
Starting to sort out the harness. I have eyeballs again. High/low head lights and interior lights functioning.
