Why not go Kings for shocks?

I have had great service from Accutune but Fox does not make a bolt in remote resi for a Cruiser. They do make a very nice remote resi universal shock but they are eye to eye and you have to customize the mounts on axle/frame.

You putting a new harmonic on it right?

I mark every bolt on a build, not just for warranty but also so we know we torqued everyone.

Cheers

Hey Ian,

Hope you’re staying warm out there. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I can always use some.
New harmonic, as well as most external parts, seals, etc. Oil pump was checked. Flywheel, PS machined/rebuilt. IP and injectors rebuilt. You can never do enough. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers mate. Promise to bring cookies next time I’m up there.

Man, I bugged him for a few days while he put in a new transfer case for me. I guess that's why he gave me his car and told me to explore the city. :)

Georg charges extra for you to watch him and learn from him.
I know, I know. But it is worth his company... This money can not buy.

So while the troopy is with @orangefj45 I've been working on the 1HDFT engine. My goal is to start it in a few weeks on a stand with coolant and let it run for 10-15 min. Then, take it to Georg and have it swapped with the 1HDT that I managed to damage. Kicking myself every day...

Every bolt torqued and checked and marked.

Do the blue and yellow dots mean different things? And red for that matter?

I noticed that some bolts have both blue and yellow dots on them.

just curious

Torque blue. Check torque yellow. Both - solidarity with Ukraine. :)

Finally managed to pull the left water bypass. Took 3 days of patience. Thanks @SNLC for your post a few years ago on this issue. Helpful.

I decided to pull the head and send it to inspection with new valve seals. Might as well if the engine is on a stand with out the manifolds. Pistons and cylinders look great.

Well, the saga continues. Cracks in the head.
I’ll install an FTE new head at this point. Lucky it’s not the ER here. There would be many people dead.

In General these small cracks between valves are not considered critical.
But on a general work of this magnitute it will be silly to cheap out on this component

Totally agree. 🙂

Got today the head from Japan. Dave has been an angel providing this support. Ordered new valves and it’s going to a shop to be assembled. I hope to be able to put all this together soon and start it.

A good friend offered me a YanMar valve cover to for the 1HDFTE if mine can’t be modified to fit.

I decided to modify the FTE head and use the stock FT valve cover. Also 3D printed a cover instead of the PS pump so I can run the engine on bench with out ruining the vanes.

I found a shop that does diesel heads and they can easily repair the old head. I am going to complete rebuild it to spec. This way we have a spare of this rare specimen.

The two heads (new and old) are at the diesel head shop. This place in Oakland has been in business since 1973 and the sons of the founder are working there. They have huge truck engine heads in repair and I feel confident that they will bring the old head to spec. I also had our CNC shop add a threaded M6 to let me mount the valve cover of the FT engine. One mounting hole was off. I am getting the heads on Friday. I left the shop some chocolate to keep them happy. I leave Swiss chocolate everywhere I go. It keeps the world smiling 🙂.

Small gifts of kindness make a big Difference in the world !

This will be a fun busy weekend. Picked up the 2 heads from the shop in Oakland and they are ready to install. $1200 total including fixing the old head and bringing it to spec. I also visited @orangefj45 and picked up a couple of OEM new aprons for the troopy shipped form @joekatana. Had to visit my other friend Roark at Terrain Tamer in Stockton. Amazing facility they are putting together.
