Those leaf springs look quite narrow to be cruiser springs.

Reading through your thread. I can't believe how similar our rigs are (other than year). About identical condition!

Even down to the license plate ;-)

Congratulations on your new truck. I wan't even wanting an FJ45 when I found mine (I was looking for an FJ40). However, mine has grown on me rapidly and I love it.

Best wishes - Dallas

Thanks Dallas,

I thought the same thing when I first saw it. I read you were thinking of selling, I hope you have reconsidered, that truck is too nice to let go!! You will regret it later.

The springs are correct OME 2 1/2" lift and shackles, although it leans pretty bad to the drivers side. I am going to re-assign black and gold plates to the truck and restore the original license plate frame.

Where does everybody keep pulling these big windows out from?

Great truck btw.

Your're right Rob, I think I will just tube it and run the Hammers. I won't be wasting time looking for anymore hard to find stock parts, it is starting to wear me out :)

Thanks for the link on the carb kit. I did not even think of Marv having them, looks like another trip to Specter.

I don't know if it is dumb luck or cruiser karma, but I have been able to network with some very helpful and awesome Mud peeps. Thanks guys!!!

Just try to get out of there with just a carb kit :grinpimp:

I am going to be rebuilding the carburetor and in doing a search for a part number, it would appear I am supposed to have a large window carb???? Am I reading the date correctly 1 G 15 (1971, July, 15th?)

Not sure what date the change over was from the large window carb. I thought 65 had the smaller window. Did your small window had th kick solenoid? I've got a few carbs and I know there are two sizes of small widow carb. The one barrel ended I believe in 3/69. Then the rest of 69 model year had a two barrel. No real reason I asked just curious what the date for the carb window change was.

Nice looking truck. Not to often you find them this original after this long.

Now I am really confused. I am waiting on the rebuild kit I had ordered, they told me it was for a large window carb from early to 68 model.

I know that the small window came in the later years of the one barrel carbs. The large window didn't last until 3/69 when the two barrel started. Did your small window have a wire on the back for the idle kick solenoid? I've got a few small window one barrel carbs and all of them had the solenoid. I don't remember if any of them came on either of the 65 FJ45s I have over the years but I don't think so. I think both had after market carbs. My 68 had a carter I remember and that was back in 74 when I bought it. That one now has trhe correct small window carb and runs great Funny how I remember the vehicle I bought 35 years ago but don't remember the ones I got in the nneties:rolleyes:

 John

John,

I checked the back of the carb, nope no wire or solenoid. The only wires are for the choke, throttle and vacuum advance. The plot thickens:)

That makes me think even more that the small window was original. One of the small window carbs I bought from a junk yard's back room. All the carbs had a model and year on a attached tag. It was marked 66 and had the solenoid. So a small window without the solenoid would have been earlier:hhmm:

I rebuilt the carb., freed up the stuck throttle cable (dash pull), lubed choke cable and filled up with fresh gas.
Now, I find out the carburetor insulator is leaking where the pcv tube inserts. Has anyone repaired theirs with an epoxy or do I need a new one?

I put some high temp silicone in and around mine and it works fine

Well I think that was done to repair it by the PO.
