Sweet wish I had a turbo

Was wondering about your build, good to see you have made progress. How about a few side shots for us. I see you still don't have rear windows yet, i have decided to go with Lexan with a slight tint instead of glass.
It should be cheaper and easier to work with and just a bit lighter, may even do the rear hatch with it.
Keep posting.

shes a nice turbo hey Kling-on:)

yea bax, im going with lexan too, once i get the ok from my engineer, il be taking it to the body shop ( a mate of mine that will be doing it in his shed) and then off the a window place, so they can sort out the rear windows, il be getting a tinted lexan also

i want the rear end to come down at least 4 inches if not 6, and front another 2inches, she is just a little too tall,
il probably move the rear diff back an inch in the process

Your going to be doing some trimming on the quarters then eh.
You going to get what you need without trimming the front fenders?

i would love to get my guards done the same as yours, but i also want to run the factory fiberglass 6Xs flairs, so i cant chop the guards too much if at all, i think i may just have to bump stop big time :frown::crybaby::frown:

Wow, somebody is looking at my build thread...I am flattered.

Tofu - your build thread is the dog's bollocks - still waiting to see the new paint though - unless I missed it.

Pyro - the bob writeup is awesome as well - great job on the mod resurrection! I wish I lived where deisel engines and 5 speeds, and parts vehicles were just lying about...

and im back,

i have been very very slack the past few months in regards to Bob,
here are a few pix of the rear bar i have mocked up today, i will be tweaking it a little tomorrow, like bringing the top of the sides down a good inch, so that A) it clears the body and B) doesn't make the side panel look as big.

please give me you comments on this, any thoughts are always welcome.

also stay tuned, as i may have sorted out the rear window issue, with the help of Ebay :):)

P.S. yes this HJ is from Aus despite what the number plate says, i picked that up when i was over on Vegas a few years back

Thats a mean looking rear bumper. er...cardboard mock up :D

Was wondering where this thread /pyro was, bumper is a little on the large side for my taste, i like the design but would scale it down a bit.
Good to see ya back.

flute boardor core flute its called, like corrugated cardboard, but plastic its ALOT stronger and easier to work with

i love the look of the back, but the sides i will be working on again today, due to the way i chopped the body, the sides do have to be a little taller then i would like, but but the time i take an inch or so off the top egde, to bring it away from the body i think it will be fine,
the back section is as high as i can get it, it is sitting level with the bottom of the body so its a good 60mm above the rear crossmember, again if i brought it down to stock height, it would make the side sections bigger again.

i will post some more pix tonight, plus some pix of my rear window idea

ok did a little work on the rear bar today, made the sides a little lower (about an inch)

as u can see, i will also be running the factory flairs, which will need some modding, im thinking that i will cut the flair off in line with the body and get a section folded up, the same shape as the flair and have it welded to the bar.. :)

few more pix, with a rough mock up of the tow hitch, recovery points and hi-lift jacking point

lowering the top a little has also made the section cut around the light look alot better
008.jpg

from the back you can see that i have plenty of room for a spare wheel carrier.

here is some 60 Bling that i picked up off Ebay (chrome hub covers)

now for the rear windows, i also get these off Ebay, they are a flat glass, so when the frames get shortened to suit the back of Bob, replacement glass should be a lot easier to get then the curved factory glass
014.jpg

and now the best part about these windows...
015.jpg

016.jpg

ooooh yea, they swing up, that is a feature i WILL be trying to keep

-Pyro

That window is awesome! I like what you've done with Bob

thanks shotgun, yea i love the window, its the only one i have ever seen in Aus, its kind of a shame to cut it up...

also just had a look thru your thread and realized you rear bar looks alot like how i want to build mine.. well the rear section does. i will be studying it before i start my build

I didn't realize you had cut your quarters that high!
I have been thinking of cutting down some sliders for my windows, but haven't really got to the point where i have to make up my mind yet.

so i had my engineer come around and give bob his first inspection, this is my list

- Heat Shield on turbo - Bump stops
- Hand brake
- Front break lines need to be mounts to diff where the hard line goes to flexi line
- Bar work must cover fuel filler (same as mock up)
- Diagonal bracing on rear cross member as per factory
- Find out biggest factory tyre size, then add 2 inches
- Find out factory trim height
- Rear windows must have stamp on them
- After market seats are fine as long as mounted correctly and ADR approved
- Transfer cross member needs bracing underneath

but other then that, its pretty much done.

time to get my finger out and find some $$$$

painted and refitted my newly braced crossmember today

after fitting this i was tinkering on the 60 today and had thought come to mind...

for a little extra storage, why not try putting a set of front door map pockets on the rear doors??
