angry eyes will be going on after the car is regoed and engineered

the rear bar, i should be getting the template to mate this weekend so he can start building it up, i am still not sure how i am going to mount it to the the rear of the car, as i dont have any chassis past the rear cross member but i will sort something out

im glad you like the rear door storage mod, its such a simple idea,

my original idea was to use 80series map pockets on the front doors of my 60 and then move the 60ones to the back, but the 80s door trim is about 100mm longer then a 60s door, so thats now outta the question, BUT, if i can source myself a few more 60 pockets, i will be moving the ones on the front doors foward and then putting a second pocket behind them, left one on the right door, right one on the left door, so that when they sit back to back, they will line up alot nicer :)

i should also have the rear bumpstops sorted pretty soon

Very cool man. I too use the cardboard templates before I think of touching steel.

To mount it you could try cutting the old rear bumper mounts from the section of frame you cut off and welding them to the outside at the very rear of the existing frame. If not you could build the mid section of bumper to replace the factory xmember (welded to frame) then make the bumper corners/wings bolt on. I did this to my 80 but used tube for the wings and welded in the oe receiver as the rearmost xmember.

thanks for a few new ideas, im also thinking maybe make up a C section that slips snuggly over the rear Xmember, then bolt up thru the Xmember, and also bolt some plates front to back (is that makes sense) so that way its bolted in both X and Y axis, nice and stong, as the bar itself is going to sitting a fair way out from the back of the chassis, unlike a traditional bar that sits ON the chassis.

do you have any pix of the one on your 80?

Hey Pyro, how far into mexico are you? I'm on the gold coast, looks like you are making progress.

Cheers, Mutt

Pffft, not in mexico man, im only just below you, Newcastle

Heres the pics of the 80 rear I did up.

The swing down tire gate is attached to the oe receiver that is welded in place of the oe xmember. The bumperettes bolt on via 5 bolts each and match the angles of the rock sliders nicely.

The build is somewhere in my "93 80 Beater" thread in the 80 tech section if you want to see more pics.

Good luck.

Awesome build thread mate, I'm loving some of your ideas - gives me inspiration for the stuff I want to do

I just finished my bumper, love having a sleeker but!

A1 may refer to: A1 paper size , A1 Steak Sauce , Canon A-1, a 35mm SLR camera manufactured from 1978 to 1985, a motorway in Croatiao, the the first private television channels in the Republic of Macedonia, or even a British/Norwegian boy band who was originally made up of Mark Read, Paul Marazzi, Ben Adams and Christian Ingebrigtsen. Their first single, "Be the First to Believe", entered the UK singles chart at #6 in early 1999. ...

but in the context i used it means A1, top notch, great, immaculate.. etc etc..

just been down the shed,

this is how the side looks up against the car

and the back, no don't forget that the sides of this will taper up to mean the side sections

when i went to move bob all was good until i tried to brake, my foot when straight to the floor, :o

after getting under it i noticed i have a nice stream of fluid on my passenger side wheel, all the hoses are clean, so im thinking maybe i have blown a seal in the caliper :mad:

so looks like i know what im doing on my next day off

fabbed this little baby up today

my engineer wants me to run a heat shield on my turbo, im thinking i might put a second layer on it and sandwich some exhasut wrap between it.

i ran it for about 15-20 mins the turbo gets hot, but the shield was still cool to the touch :) so i guess its doing its job

so i have been a slack ass of late, but got stuck in to Bob again
here are a few progress pics of the rear bar,

the side section needs to be shorted to bring the back of it inline with the main ear bar,
the rear bar as you can see in previous pix was originally designed to be flat across the back, but after some web browsing i decided to put the taper on it and i think it makes it look a lot better for it, so i now have to mod all the other parts to fit the new shape of the bar

all fun and games

You remove some of the "ass" that our cruisers are notorious for having, which allows you to crawl up steeper walls and not worry about slamming the back on a rock or something when coming off an obstacle.
