Vehicle: 1983 FJ60—Stock motor and 4-speed transmission.
Owner: Jake C., Upper Michigan.
Condition: The LC is stock, no modifications. Rusty, but solid. Engine is on it's way to being rebuilt. Acquired in a trade with 201,320 miles on the ODO. Frame needs much love. Body is in surprisingly good shape for the land of ice and snow.
Usage: Best case, as another DD, and the vehicle I take to visit my Alaskan Uncle in the next year or two. Worst case, a head-turning grocery-getter for around town.

Looks good! My hat is off to anyone in Michigan who can keep an old Toyota going. The land of rust and snow, for sure. If you get it solid, park it inside for the winter and drive something else during salt season (all but 3 mo. of the year, IIRC).

She'll be a summer rig for sure! We've gotten snow storms in July, local lore says. I'm going to try my best and keep the rust off.

love the color on this one for a hunting truck. how's it run with the Vortec compared to the OEM motor?

The 5.3 is perfect in these. She does 80 no problem, gets 20mpg if you're gentle and you're still driving a 62!

@hawksandherons did you do 33x12.5 on those stock wheels? If so, how do they fit? Looks good, man!

I've been on here for years but never got around to registering my 60. Here goes:

1984 FJ60
VIN: JT3FJ60G5E0087347
Dave Rushing
Turdle
205K miles
OME SUA, 33" BFG AT's, ARB bumper, Warn M8000, Hacked up ARB steps DIY'ed into sliders, ARB roof rack, Tuffy box, DIY spare tire carrier in cargo area, 3 point belts front and rear, rear seat headrests, desmogged, DIY dizzy recurve, CityRacer carb.
I use the truck for regular stuff...groceries, ice cream, recreation, trail duty...it does everything pretty well.

I need some details on that canoe.

I'm Austin. I picked up my '85 FJ60 (H42/2F) a few months ago. "Penelope" (I'm sure that's an old name here) has close to 190k miles on her. Bought it bone stock (33's & 15x8 wheels were already on it.)

Since purchase, all I've done was throw on some new mirrors, grill paint job, Truck-Lite LED headlights & a Whelen light bar. I have a set of bronze 16x8 Method 701 wheels and Falken Wildpeak AT/3 LT265/75R16's on order.

Current use is towing a few old stand-up Jet-Skis down to the lake and some occasional cruising up in the AZ hills.

I look forward to participating in discussions since I've started to learn a few in's & out's of this amazing machine. Thank you all for the help you've provided me as a long-time lurker!

She's a beaut! Any particular reason why you're downsizing the tires? The Wildpeaks are amazing, though. You'll love them.

Thanks! I love the Wildpeaks. I've had them on my Silverado for some time now and they're holding up great!
I'm downsizing from the 33's to 32's because of the cruiser's stock height. The narrower tire will also be welcome on highways. I'd do 33's again (~11" width) if I did a shackle reversal for an extra 1.5" up front and putting longer shackles out back, but I'm not sure if there's any recommended SR kits out there other than MAF's (who's sadly out of stock).

1. 1990 FJ62 w/SBC 350
2. Brayden Hill
3. Yuki (Yukichan)
4. 250 on the body, 5k on the motor
5. OME lift, fresh 045 Paint, ARB touring rack modified for our CVT rooftop tent. Big ol' Wrangler Duratrac's. (33x12.5x15) Fresh Chevy TBI 350, so she rips!
6. She's my daily, and our weekend adventure mobile.
