I am normally in the 100 Series forum, but I ran into this bad boy through a transaction with my job. Talked to the owner, as he was of course showing it off. It was an Emerald Green 1997 Land Cruiser with 587k on the clock. One thing though, it had cloth interior. I know this was more common on the fj80's but I have never seen it on a fzj80. Was this an option? Not to imply he was full of s***, because he may be on this board, haha. But he said he had it special ordered that way from Japan?
FTR, the cloth was ugly as sin. Truck was in great shape though. Any input?

My '94 has clothe seats from the island of Japan. The leather was nice on day one but after 20something years the clothe seats and rubber steering wheel and shifter fair much better. Clothe seats and elockers are very desirable.

I test drove a red 96 a few years back with cloth seats. They looked old and factory. He said the 80 came that way. I wanted those cloth seats bad but unfortunately they were attached to a turd of an 80.

IIRC back when these were still being produced most that came into the US came with the leather seat option which included the sunroof, the leather, third row seats, sliding rear quarter windows, alloy wheels, etc. If you wanted to wait a few months your local Toyota dealer (might) could order a bare bones model (referred to on Mud as the Poverty Pack) which didn't come with all those options.

So does this 97 model have solid rear quarter windows, steel wheels, a sunroof?

Lots of cloth Fzj80s. 93-94 pattern looks a lot better than the design on the 95+ years.

As someone's else said, cloth holds up a million times better. My manual cloth seats look nearly new.

I'd like to see a pic of the 97 cloth seats.

i have a 93 and 94 with cloth seats. would never go back to leather.

Cloth seats. Factory option. Uhh, I'm way more interested in a 587k mile 80...

My 94 has the clothe seats in addition to the sun/moon roof, sliding rear quarters, third row seats, alloy wheels, etc... Heck, it even has a stereo and AC.

Common guys, leather isn't that bad, you can replace it. I know it isn't the cool thing to do like a new bumper or sliders, but YOU use it every time you drive the truck.

The early 80 cloth seats were awesome. My ex-wife had a loaded out camry with the same cloth seats that came in the poverty pack type LC. Was a very comfortable material. I have not redone the leather in my 80 yet. Just added SOR seat covers which are fantastic by the way.

The cloth seats seem to be smaller and or lower.
I can't get comfortable in the wife's 97 with leather.
My 93 with cloth and her previous 93 with cloth fit me like a glove.

I looked at a '96 for a forum member who lives out East, it had the same seats @Funner posted a pic of. It had ~175K on it and they looked nicer than most all leather seats I see.

I see no reason his seats weren't factory - they still did them semi-common in '95 & '96, so even just having a early build '97 they could have had sets of cloth seats kicking around the assembly plant.

In fact, seems a cloth interior late FZJ was on ebay recently too. It was even a slick-top & rear windows were non-sliders (IIRC) - it was a spendy litttle 80 though, guy knew what he had & it was low miles. I want to say it was even in your general neck of the woods.

I had a 94 with cloth seats.... looks like he is not full of S.... LOL

My 95 has cloth seats and no factory roof rack, love the cloth! I thought I had heard that leather was a port installed option along with the alarm.

This is my truck with the plus of no factory racks. Loves me my cloth seats. Still in great condition.
