I think we are looking for FJ55 pins right, Not FJ40 pins big difference
@Grease Cruiser previously mentioned that FJ40 pins will work.

I’d like to try to find an alternative to bushing “kits” using readily available pins and bushings. I think I’ve got a good line on bushings, but so far have only been able to find 6mm pins in a 35mm length. An alternative to that is to go with 1/4”, but still want to look around some more before making compromises.
The total necessary pin length not counting a head or tail is about 60mm (~2-3/8”)

Not really.....40 pins work great. Don't overthink it.

I just did mine a couple of months ago. I bought my 40 pins off of ebay for $10 or so for each kit; required two kits.

Ige did this several years ago and here is her original write-up:

Again, don't overthink it.

It's nice not having to pick up my driver's door 2+ inches to get it to shut.

Were the original 55 bushing plastic like the 40's? I haven't taken my hinges apart yet, but I will be next weekend so I want to make sure I have all the needed parts ready to go. Did anyone ever find an options using oillite bushings and an available automotive hinge pin?

I've been banging in the Nissan kits from Napa. Paint then bake.

After reading a few more threads, I sent a PM to @Midgainc to see if he is still rebuilding them. I know there are a couple of other methods that will work but I will definitely go with his rebuild if he is still providing the service. He hasn't been on in a while though. Anyone have another contact detail for him (cell or email)?

Edit: We're in touch.

@DieselFJ any chance you got any further into this project? Searching at the moment for the definitive answer.
Sorry, should have updated this thread and forgot. I bought these pins and bushings from eBay, but I don’t remember the specifics on what I had to do to make them work in the hinges, in the end everything is tight and seems to be holding up well.

any hiccups or top tips with the nissan kits or just plug and play?

Ive rebuilt my front ones with the old Napa kit, but my rear ones are quite worn, and this is a relativly easy project

Thanks!
I have just done the fronts. My back door hinges didn't need rebuilding.
