We would like to keep tabs on what trails each group ended up running. Can you please respond here, within the Facebook group, text me, or tell me:

Which trails did you do?
How many trucks were in your group?

I’d also like to know if anyone unfortunately missed a meetup and ended up without a group?

There weren’t many folks for the 730 meetup this morning so 9 trucks went out for Poughkeepsie. We ended up taking Corkscrew back after Poughkeepsie took longer than expected.

We did a late solo run of Ophir and Black Bear. One truck four people.

Ok- i may have missed a thread or two...who has the 200 Series Maltec Build and I assume coming to our little event? I encountered it on the road from Ouray to Telluride this AM. I’m going to be drooling all over this.

I’m in Telluride at Brown Dog btw

Had a nice run today. We did Ophir over to Black Bear and back to Telluride. Then Markuson, Matt Gaskins and I did Imogene in the rain

Markuson has a picture of all 3 of us at the Imogene pass sign. It was raining pretty hard up there

Very civilized first few days .... I must say. Our Grey Poupon remains intact!

So nice to meet all of you fine people! Thanks leaders! Well done.

Here are some pix.

Cheers.

Nice shots Larry. It was nice wheeling with you for two days

In the morning I am off over Ophir, down top Silverton to pick up the Alpine Trail through engineer pass to Lake City and then home. Sorry I can't be there for the whole event. It has been an awesome time and many thinks to Cody, Cole, Matt and whomever else spent their personal time putting together a world class event

I had a blast

Day 2 Roundup:

We had an early group of 4 trucks take on Mineral Creek, Engineer Pass, and Cinnamon Pass. Thanks to @ethernectar for leading! Amory and Jackson from Slee took a group of around 10 to Last Dollar Road for a day of 200 Series training, recovery, driving techniques, etc. The training was still going strong around 2-3 PM when we happened to encounter the group on Last Dollar. A group of 7-8 trucks did Ophir and Black Bear (photos above) — special thanks to @mcgaskins for leading and spotting on Black Bear. Afterward, a subset of the group went on to Imogene, a couple folks ended the day early, and then the wife and I did a solo trip on Last Dollar Road. We met @Atwalz and the crew that did Imogene earlier in the day and I believe some returned via the highway and the remainder ran Last Dollar from north to south. A small group also did Imogene a bit earlier in the day. There were 200s all over the region today.

Notable tomorrow is that the official meeting time is 7:30 AM for all groups to encourage folks to return on time for the Slee dinner and to have a bunch of trucks in the same place at the same time.

With tomorrow being the third day of trails we're expecting a lot of ad-hoc planning in the morning, but here are the trail combos from the website:
  • 7:30 AM, Group 1, Gulches I (Poughkeepsie + Picayune/Placer)
  • 7:30 AM, Group 2, Basins (Imogene + Governor + Yankee Boy)
  • 7:30 AM, Group 3, Black Bear II (Ophir + Black Bear)
  • 7:30 AM, Group 4, Lakes (Alta Lakes + Clear Lake)

Personally, we're looking forward to a slightly easier/relaxed day and would be happy to lead a group to Clear Lake, which we've never done. There may be time to run some of Red Mountain Mine trails, jaunt out to Animas Forks, or hit Alta Lakes on the return trip.

Anyone wanting to join that got a late start- meet at Conoco at 10:30. Doing Alta Lake short easy trail that is near Telluride- picnic lunch at top at lake and soak up the sun, then chill back in a Telluride before Slee dinner.

Pleasure wheeling with you these past 2 days. Safe travels home!

Preliminary Day 3 Report:

First, please remember that the annual Slee dinner is tonight at 6PM. The location is New Fat Alley BBQ at 250 San Juan Ave in Telluride.

There was a pretty good turnout at 7:30 this morning at the baseball field parking lot illustrated by Cody's photo above. Three groups formed for early morning runs. Amory and Jackson led a group to explore some trails around Silverton (I believe Kendall Mountain, maybe Arrasta Gulch... maybe @sleeoffroad can fill us in). Like our group, I imagine they enjoyed some mountain bike traffic on Ophir on the way over to 550. A second group ran Imogene out of Telluride and a subset went on to do Black Bear. I led a group of 8 over Ophir for a relaxing voyage to Clear Lake. A few trucks also went on a side trip to Bandora Mine. We thought about doing Last Dollar on the way home but wanted to make sure we were back for the Slee dinner.

From @BTUMAN's comment above it sounds like more folks were feeling like a slower paced day with a trip to Alta Lakes.

Based on prior year's experience, the group thins out by Sunday morning but there's usually enough people for 1-2 groups. The start time is 8:30 AM at the baseball field for all groups.

See y'all at the Slee dinner.

Is it too late to get in on the dinner? I didn’t think I’d get up here soon enough for the event but managed to pull it off. I see something on the site about needing a lanyard for dinner..

Alta Lakes and surrounding area was an epic adventure none will soon forget.

We ended up with another 8 or so cruisers and bonded over stories - some of us demonstrating our recovery gear and learning from each other.

Most notably- that ProComp sent a secret agent to our event.

We’ve been the rouge grouo 4 playing it by ear, kids needs, sleep requirements and testosterone. Sorry we didn’t make the meet ups at 730 or 830. Look forward to connecting more tonight.

Well I had an adventure om the way home. I made it over Ophir in an hour starting at 6:30 and didnt see another person. I then headed down to Silverton and picked up CR 2 for the Alpine Loop. It is very scenic in there lots of different types of terrain. When I got to Animas Fork I followed the sign for engineer pass and it didnt take me the way I intended, I wanted to go the other way, not through Poughkeepsie. I went over California Peak (beautiful views) and ended up at Como lake and Poughkeepsie Gulch. So I took the bypass and thought I would pick up engineer that way and continue on my plan. Then I popped another tire. Good thing I carry two spares. At that point I changed my tire and carefully made my way out to the closest exit on the Ouray side and drove the highway home. Good thing I had certificates. $75 to replace both tires and one only had half tread on it. Also really glad I got the 13 gal tank so I could carry 2 spares

Wow, Ken. Glad you were prepared. Great pics.

I know a few folks are leaving in the am. I'll be around and definitely want to do another run. Are group times going to be as scheduled? Any others have any specific plans for trails?

Wow, Ken!! That’s nuts!
Glad you made it out with your second spare & sorry you were stuck on your own this time. Oh! And...glad no heart attack when we couldn’t take turns cranking the jack! Haha...

About 2 spares... I guess if you never blow both tires...you never truly appreciate being equipped for it...so there ya go. :) Kind of like whacking a large critter only weeks after installing a bull bar. You don’t want to whack critters and you don’t want flats...but you certainly do appreciate your preparations and equipment when stuff happens.

It was great wheeling with you again, my friend. Hopefully see you soon.

M
