Day 2 Roundup:
We had an early group of 4 trucks take on Mineral Creek, Engineer Pass, and Cinnamon Pass. Thanks to
@ethernectar for leading! Amory and Jackson from Slee took a group of around 10 to Last Dollar Road for a day of 200 Series training, recovery, driving techniques, etc. The training was still going strong around 2-3 PM when we happened to encounter the group on Last Dollar. A group of 7-8 trucks did Ophir and Black Bear (photos above) — special thanks to
@mcgaskins for leading and spotting on Black Bear. Afterward, a subset of the group went on to Imogene, a couple folks ended the day early, and then the wife and I did a solo trip on Last Dollar Road. We met
@Atwalz and the crew that did Imogene earlier in the day and I believe some returned via the highway and the remainder ran Last Dollar from north to south. A small group also did Imogene a bit earlier in the day. There were 200s all over the region today.
Notable tomorrow is that the official meeting time is 7:30 AM for all groups to encourage folks to return on time for the Slee dinner and to have a bunch of trucks in the same place at the same time.
With tomorrow being the third day of trails we're expecting a lot of ad-hoc planning in the morning, but here are the trail combos from the website:
- 7:30 AM, Group 1, Gulches I (Poughkeepsie + Picayune/Placer)
- 7:30 AM, Group 2, Basins (Imogene + Governor + Yankee Boy)
- 7:30 AM, Group 3, Black Bear II (Ophir + Black Bear)
- 7:30 AM, Group 4, Lakes (Alta Lakes + Clear Lake)
Personally, we're looking forward to a slightly easier/relaxed day and would be happy to lead a group to Clear Lake, which we've never done. There may be time to run some of Red Mountain Mine trails, jaunt out to Animas Forks, or hit Alta Lakes on the return trip.
