Ok. @ Broski was right..... we finished the swing out carrier and hung that big 37 on it.
Yeah it holds it...... yeah we reinforced it by tragulating in many spots..... but it is clear that in an off road situation, tha spare will be doing a whole lot of shakin'and it will eventually break.
Too much time was wasted in it, so i decided to still use it but for something else. The spare will go slanted at an angle of about 45° more or less. As for the swing out carrier, it will be rep purposed as a extra fuel carrier.

I have 2 military fuel cans in the store room . I'll install those on the carrier for those far away camping trips . I'll still be able to remove the whole unit when I don't need it

Good day today. Worked on a few projects . Things are moving along . Let's hope they remain that way.
I hadn't worked much on the roof rack. We gave it some time and attention. We had not made the mounts yet . Now it's practically a done deal. A few minor things to button up and it sould go to paint

Today ,we kept plugging at this thing and noticed a problem 😡. The steering boxe's universal joint 's retaining bolt hits the swing pockets inner side and keeps the steering wheel from turning more than a quarter turn.... not a big deal, but i did not expect to have to go back to that part of the build.
It should be a super easy to solve that problem..
I'm thinking of simply drilling a 1/2 " hole into the coil spring pocket at the spot where the bolts head fouls it. Forgot to take pictures but I'm sure that you guys can visualize what miy issue is.
Other than that, the bed mounted spare carrier is done.

Wow that's tight. Gotta remember to allow clearance for frame flex too.

Hard to tell what's hitting. The head of the bolt? Can you space the steering box off the frame a quarter inch maybe? Otherwise, start cutting what it's fouling on.

80 box bolts to the out side of the frame so spacing the box out won't work.

Yes. The head of the bolt i circled fouls the spring pocket. If my calculations are right, opening up a hole in the exact spot where it hits . I haven't had time to mess with the project for the past few days but hopefully, good times will come again soon. Should not be too hard to fix...... (i hope)

What i have on it is a Nissan Patrol Y 61 steering box. It is said to be way stronger than the 80 series box. I don't know if you guys know about those Patrols in the States.... I've never seen one there. I installed it a few pages back. The bolt pattern and the size of the box was all that differed but they mount the same way.

The back doors are back on but a few adjustments need to be made to the top to be able to mount it to the upper rear panel . Hopefully Monday, the top and rear panel will also be on.

There’s a lot of work to make a 4 door 40, hanging the back doors was one of the hardest things to me. Getting the lines right was next to impossible on my build. Still not right but they work. Until it snows…

No doubt especially if you have hand made door skins. I thought i'd never get to thi point but looks like we'll be ok.
What do you mean until it snows ?🤔

The Nissan Patrol was not imported to the North American market. You do see them here but there Gray market, have to be 25 years or older to import.
You do see them but there rare.
