Hey guys, I am looking to link a project that has stalled for too long to get it lower. For those that drive their rigs a lot and on the road, how do heims hold up (noise) compared to Johnny joints. I understand the JJ are quiet and can hold up well on a street rig. I will do some light wheeling with it. I am seeing Icon4x4 and some others use JJ on all their links. If this gets 5,000 miles a year that would be a lot.

Thanks

Rob

I run the Metal Cloak Dura Joints in the rear of mine and they are great. I have Heims up front and i am switching to the dura joints. . The heims clunck

I have 500 miles on my heims in the past month and I will replace them with something else when they are due. As Jeff said, they are clunky and you can feel the cracks in the road. It’s only moderately noticeable at the time being but I’d go with something with more cushion if it were me.

I like my rock jock JJ's a lot. 4000+ miles on them and no noise or issues.

I've got JJ on mine but it hasn't been out of the garage yet. Hopefully it will be soon. I'll check back with this thread as soon as I have some seat time in the rig

I’ve been running Currie joints 14+ years. Probably 20,000 miles at least. Hard off-road and lots of highway time. I’ve only needed to rebuild ONE. They are solid and make zero noise, I just keep them greased

I assume the joints with poly in them are quieter and smoother because of the poly, but doesn’t the poly wear out much quicker than steel, assuming it’s greased?

I have some Rock Krawler joints and I see real mixed reviews on them. They were an ‘upgrade’ when I bought link parts from Artec. I’m not even sure what they’re considered closer too, JJ or heims?

I initially installed the Barnes Enduro joints on my linked 100 at both ends of the upper and lower links but…

The 2UZ cats dump on either side of the inner frame right above where my frame side lower link joints are mounted. After a few hundred miles I melted the poly bushing, thus causing a clunk in my drivetrain from a start/ stop position.

I swapped to heims at the frame side and I retained the enduro joint at the axle side.

This is a fresh build but I did 3500 miles, mix on road/ Offroad. This car will see a lot of highway miles. I think I’ll try to keep the heims happy with some dry grease. We’ll see how long they hold up.
