Matt, are you concerned about rust under the support at the back of the hood - the one you didn't pull or did it look good? Just curious.

It looked really nice from the outside, it probably looked really good on the inside I'm assuming. I tried to shoot some primer in there, got some. I think it would be more of a hassle to take it off than the little that would be gained. So I guess I'm not that concerned about it.

I missed the FJ40 build-up, but followed the LV and now this one. EXCELLENT work and incomparable attention to detail!

It has me wondering though. How much would a professional shop charge for a restoration on this level?

You'll never find a shop that Could do a restoration to this level!!

I thought that too, I have been to his shop and have seen this level of quality executed at Scott's shop.

I have seen where he had taken apart door skins so he could paint them thoroughly and separate body tubs to treat unseen rust... very impressive.

It could easily go to 6 figures.

It throws me off everytime I see you cutting and welding on the hard top. Some proabably don't know that those had metal vs fiberglass roofs :grinpimp:

Great job, I love watching the builds

Matt, how about making this your next project. You definitely have the skills to fabricate this rig. Supposedly Marv or TLC sold this one for 85K.

Hi Matt,
1) On post #303 you work on securing the front Xmember of the frame by using carrriage bolts, did you use high tensile strenght or regular grade carriage bolts
2) On painting between coats of primers what is the best drying time retention before spraying the next coat?./ On final bodycolor between coats?/ Between primer and body color coats.?/Between painting, and sanding.?
Thanks.

About an hour on the lpb tonight.

I got home from some after in-law x-mas activities this weekend. While I was travel to there place I picked up my box at the acid guys place. I had to do a little clean up here and there with the spot blaster, but overall turned out real nice.

Few pics of the box, hoping to get the top of the box into DP tomorrow. Try to get it flipped over in the next day or 3 after that..clean up the bottom and epoxy prime that.

That is Jonathons Daily Driver from TLC. I would give both nuts for that rig!

Matt, look closely around the bolts in the bed where the rear stays and inner fender wells bolt in. Sometimes there are stress cracks around the head of the bolts/screws, and they are difficult to see. I know about half of mine have cracks that need to be welded and ground back smooth.

back on pages 22 and 23 you documented working on the bed, but I don't remember you fixing the rust on the sides? Was that done when you did that rear piece of the bed? I'm feeling stupid...wow you're almost done ;p .

I don't need to look closely......the stress cracks are very visable :D

There is some other metal work I will be doing also, just want to get the entire box into epoxy to prevent rust. Then the fun begins....

Bed is the one that came on that new frame I got....I was just changing the rear valance out so the talights are right for the 78. That was the only difference between the 2 boxes I could see.

The sides on the new box were pretty nice. The right rear quarter on the box needs to be cut out and a new piece welded in, other than that the sides are nice.

1. Hi-tensile

2. Could you simplify the question?

Thanks, Matt
