Congrats on scoring a frame.:cheers: I was wondering if you would be using the older style tail lights on the old rear valance or are you going to update them? Thanks, Mike
 
So what would have been the plan if you had to fix the rusted 76 frame ? I guess a few of us secretly hoped you would have to work on it just to get a superb howto pictured live on our screens :doh:

You may have answered this some where before, but how do you make those bends in the sheetmetal? Especially the curved bends...

Not a lot done on the lpb tonight, about 1.5 hours.

Pretty much got out in the shop and got my cab mount welded to the bottom and that other piece I have no idea what it is for. Either way, mount is back on and that metal work is done on the cab for the most part. I spent a little time feeling everything on the sheet metal and tapping here and there. Took a pic of all the metal I cut out of the cab........not as bad as the lv, that's for sure ;) .

I actually spent some time cleaning the shop this evening. Neighbor came over later and I wanted to make sure that cab lined up with everything on the 66 frame.........it did. All 4 body mounts lined up perfect like it was meant to be. Feel kinda good taking 2 lpb's that were probably left for dead and bringing them back to life.

Few odds and ends to do on the cab tomorrow. Still have to get all that green paint of the back, few welds to grind down on the inside and shoot some primer. Hopefully start tearing into that new frame later this week.....

Could be done, but this new one should be a lot easier even with the parts swapping.

Nothing magical about what I was going to do with the other one. The main plan is that I was going to spit the frame and frame rails. I planned on grinding and punching out every buck rivet on the top and bottome and then seperate them. I then could sandblast the growth that was occuring between there and start fabricating new frame. I may have even ended up using a 40 frame for some of it.....and a lot of the brackets that were rusted off. Rear supports were gone, they would have to be made along with a lot of other stuff.

There was more, but that was the big thing....seperating those frame rails. That would have taken time along with all the time it would take to fabricate new frame and new parts. Then re-assembling everything and making sure it fits and looks stock................:rolleyes:

I'm glad I have this frame......

Depends what bends your talking about. On the rear quarters it was done 2 different ways.

One one side I bent a piece of steel straight and then cut slits in it every 1/2". I start tack welding on one side and slowly work the metal bending it by hand and tacking it every 1/2" or so.

On the other side I used a flat piece of metal tacking it the same way, bending it by hand. When it was all tacked in I cut a piece of metal that was curved to match the bend and then welded it in.

Clear as mud :)

Maybe he is asking about your break? Like for the floor board pieces etc.?

Ok this sounds like just what I will have to do on my troopie. A writeup and some pics would have been useful :doh:
 
Thecrazygreek, I think Matt was talking about that here(from page 8):



I had to do a little work on the front portion of the door sill. It had rotted out and it needed to be replaced. I cut a piece of door sill out of that other parts rig I had drug home with the lpb. I think you can see what I hacked out in the pics. Marked everything off and cut it out and welded in. That piece fit perfect and worked out really well, you would never know it was replaced right now in bare steel.
