that is a perfect starting place.

I reccomend the Tri-y style one piece header.
Downey, Marks off road and others have them in stock typically.

Here's my .02...

if you are in a position to get it rebuilt, get a good shop, rebuild it, balance it, maybe a little bore, slight mill to the head. Get a good header on there and new/rebuilt carb. I think you would definitely be happy with that. Is is SBC power? no, but it you want that power, do that swap.

For those that aren't is a position to rebuild...

NEW/RE-BUILT CARB!!!! makes a HUGE difference...
Headers...
new plugs, cap, rotor
Fix all vacuum leaks/replace hoses
TIMMING

I think you would definitely be happy with how it runs after that, with stock gear and 35's on a heavy Pig, (and a rebuilt eng/carb) mine runs extremely well and has decent power, good power I think. Changed my mind on changing diff. gears at this point.

Ben,

We should sniff your Pig just for grins. I know you have no emissions, but I bet with the new carb you would pass...

Hey Dirty Toad your wife know about this ( you are entered to IH8MUD .. ) :D take care .. !

Be serius, I mean the idea by FJBen is the right direction .. with a rebuild engine ( .30 maybe ) you can plan other stuff with a good engine. Maybe in the rebuild, some little things as one CAM from MAF is a good idea .. :D

Thanks for the tips guys!

Tapage, the wife is on board for just about anything I want to do to it, just so long as it doesn't keep us broke in the process. It is, after all HER daily driver.

What would it run to rebuild the motor? I am quite handy when it comes to this sort of thing, so I could do a lot of the labor myself and hand the parts to the appropriate person for the milling and balancing and what not.

Mr. Toad,
Don't mean to rain on your parade; But, Living with Ca smog laws and upgrading a 2F often conflict...
I did it for many years. I did a bi-annual 1-week swap of intake and exhaust systems. Distributor too. I couldn't even think of a cam swap.
I know Downey makes a real smog-legal header, I put one on my 40...I know it won't fit a 55 (with stock steering box). Would it fit a 60? Dunno. I do know that most mods are strictly forbidden

I have lived here a long time, and still hate the rules, but you gotta do what gotta do. I am a fan of do what you can within the rules and bend them where you can. What you are talking about sounds like a royal pain in the ass! not for me. I will get what I can and just deal with that. To be honest...I love the rig the way it is, but I am a man that likes to tinker with things (my wife hates that part of me  )

Thanks folks. I feel like I am now home.

i see no reason why it won't fit either a 55 or a 60...

The downey amog legal kit is a good thing ;)

Theexhaust tubing they use sucks. (at least it did 10 years ago)

Have any friend in CA. that live in a area that biannual smog sniff’s don’t apply? If they don’t mind receiving your mail once a year, bend that law there.
