if you are in a position to get it rebuilt, get a good shop, rebuild it, balance it, maybe a little bore, slight mill to the head. Get a good header on there and new/rebuilt carb. I think you would definitely be happy with that. Is is SBC power? no, but it you want that power, do that swap.
For those that aren't is a position to rebuild...
NEW/RE-BUILT CARB!!!! makes a HUGE difference...
Headers...
new plugs, cap, rotor
Fix all vacuum leaks/replace hoses
TIMMING
I think you would definitely be happy with how it runs after that, with stock gear and 35's on a heavy Pig, (and a rebuilt eng/carb) mine runs extremely well and has decent power, good power I think. Changed my mind on changing diff. gears at this point.

I have lived here a long time, and still hate the rules, but you gotta do what gotta do. I am a fan of do what you can within the rules and bend them where you can. What you are talking about sounds like a royal pain in the ass! not for me. I will get what I can and just deal with that. To be honest...I love the rig the way it is, but I am a man that likes to tinker with things (my wife hates that part of me)
Thanks folks. I feel like I am now home.
