well at least we know now, happiness like this don't come free:p:D

but seriously, my deepest sympathy goes to your wallet marin. Ouch!

Here you go, but pics don't really show the damage too well.

That looks salvagble, maybe not for high stress rear end use anymore though. Mine looked like this when it dropped a pinion into it. I ground away all the sharp edges etc, had it rebuilt and its been living in the front happily since and works fine.

So put it an a front that brakes Chromolly CV's :hhmm: i think not.

If it is salvageable Marin can either keep it as a souvenir or sell it as used and abused :D

Good point, hope mine holds up then when I find some longs to put in the front!

Yeah, me thinks it will be getting tested, fixed and sold, or sold for parts. A broken locker isn't that interesting. A broken pinion/standard cv/longfield front axle (too bad we can't keep that 1!!)/rear axle is much more interesting to put on the pool room wall!

And yes, happiness is not free these days. But damn it 's worth it!!!!! Best thing is though, for the whole weekend I didn't give a fark about the cost, it broke (I broke it), yeah I'll have to pay for it, but for now, lets just fix the fooker and keep racing! (hence driving to the finish line and forking the locker as well)

And Teebag - yeah, nissan driver, not used to a car that breaks LOL (not used to a car with power as well though LOL)

I will be rolling on the ground laughing when the "mule" has a rod sticking out of the block. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken $hit.

Yes I can :D

If how I drove it didn't put a rod out of the block, im not entirely sure what will!

I just got my 3rd Silver STAR

Well after sitting in the naughty corner for over a month, I dropped the rear 3rd (diff) in for repair and if need be a new locker.

I also made a start on the exhaust leak between the 3FE manifold and the custom Turbo work. The first time it leaked we realised that MPC had used Nylocks  so I replaced them with exhaust nuts, but the gasket already damaged did not hold. MPC took it back and replaced the gasket but the exhaust nuts no no longer held firm been on and of so many times and the leak slowly returned

So new gaskets and new nuts and done myself I hope it's the last I here of the exhaust leak. One of my pet hates.

The new crown and pinion in the 3rd will be 4.11 rather than the current 4.56 they are no longer needed.

Once the rear is back and in then the front 3rd will come out for service and switch to 4.11 too. I will also replace the Bobby Long 30 spline axle we snapped at the same time.

Going back to 4.11's because you have enough power?

1st gear is never used these days on 4.56's so I can go back to stock ratio's much easier to get spares in the middle of nowhere.

I finally got into the turbo manifold, MPC who made this up did a great job on the whole but missed the boat when it came to the details.

First they used Nylocks for the exhaust bolts, when they fixed that and the exhaust leak as result of it, they said the wastegate valve seat was missing and therefor not sealing properly, I pointed out it was in the box I gave them when they originally fitted it and they were they only company to have anything to do with it, and it had never been touched by anyone else, they say it was never there. I asked why they fitted the system without it if it was not there in the first place. I also pointed out that all the dyno work setting it up would have to be checked and adjusted at PGS.

Have to say there attitude was very poor in regards to rectifying there mistakes so when the exhaust leak returned shortly after them fixing it I did not return and just put up with it until now.

Yesterday I removed the turbo manifold, as you can see one gasket held and the other did not, but that is more by look thank management.

The outlet from the 3FE headers is bigger than the inlet to the turbo manifold, you can see this clearly from the black ring on the turbo manifold.

100_6521.jpg

This should be equal or larger than the 3FE outlets for good flow, this is just so wrong and for a company that tunes circuit racing Lambos and V8 supercars MPC should know better.

The O/D on flame ring on the gasket it's self is actually about the the I/D of the 3FE headers, too close for comfort to guarantee a good seal.

This means poor flow to the turbo and there for less power than it should have, and the gaskets are forever going to fail due to the stress on them even I used one that was sized correctly.

Anyway now I know the problem and with the history of errors I think I may just be *issed off enough to seek legal advice if they are as disagreeable as last time. But first a letter of complaint to see if they will do the decent thing.

As for the manifold I have a few ideas to improve it, first though I will buy a couple of genuine 3FE gaskets.

wow makes me feel better about having issues with my turbo setup when a pro company charges for dodgy crap like that

and wouldnt you be better off getting some thin copper and making a gasket from that any paper gasket is just gonna blow out with the heat and back pressure from the turbo

Bugger hey, cant win all the time. Quick questions Matt, up front with the 30 Spline longs did you upgrade the connection between the aisin free wheeling hubs and the wheel hub? ie using larger studs or more dowels?

Also I think you have done similar to the rear? Where was that done? I want to get some axels and hubs upgraded.

Matt White for NJ had a great time taking 2 40ft container loads home :D:D

WHAT?!? How the hell did I miss this? I live in Jersey. My father has worked down the docks for 45 years where these came in. Dang I missed the one of the greatest "it fell off the back of a truck" opportunities in my life! :D

So I watched the video and Amy has some good choices in music. Now while the perspective is all off, I think you are going to have to invest in a link and coil suspension. It looks like you are bouncing around too much for that kind of racing and that will kill you on the hills at speed. You need a lot more smooth suspension travel and link and coil is gonna be your best bet. You need something like they run in the Baja 500. Something that sinks when it hits the bottom of a hill not bounce.

Marin, I know it has a turbo on it and you need to rev it up to get the power but burn the clutch a bit. Clutches are much cheaper than axles. Dear lord, I have a toggle foot for my right, but you have 2 toggle feet! I thought there was a point when the body was going to stay in one spot and the rest drive train was gonna launch a quarter mile in under 3 seconds. Both the gas and the clutch have positions in between on and off. On the other hand way to drive it like you stole it!

This means poor flow to the turbo and there for less power than it should have.

So what you are saying is that there is still a significant amount of power that you can get out of this thing? Sweet! Believe it or not I may have just had a 3fe head, intake, and exhaust land in my lap for next to nothing. I am still sticking with the 2f head for now, but I now have a future project... top you with a super charger... :p

All about learning to drive the car, obviously from the damage I don't know how to drive it that well, but hey, it's all about the learning curve. If I'm lucky he may change his mind and not retire it.....

p.s. by the way, i drive my own car like I stole it as well LOL
