Well she started first time after who knows how many weeks/month and so far the exhaust leaks look to be gone, but on this time will tell.

She Purrrrrrrssss

Anyways back to the shed, bench seat's in now for mine. New one on order. AT's are back on, just need to pick some diff oil for the rear. Pull the front tail shaft needs re tubing. That will stay off until the new Longfield arrives and the front diff comes out to change to 4.11. New bearings and disc rota's too at the same time.

Well, at least I don't have to pay for damaging that at Vic Winch, caus I bought it!!! :)

Now stop going over your car looking for things, it's time for me to spend some money on my rig now that I have gained confidence by driving yours at the comp!

Well the 4.11 now means 1st can be used and I have a 5 speed box again.

Cruising at 100k's/60mph is at 2100rpm in 5th on 35's

Matt laid down the law before I left on Friday.

"The 40 has driven to and from every comp we have been to under it's own power. This will not stop now, just because you are driving."

So, I managed to drive it home in front wheel drive with no rear tailshaft or driveshafts.

Amy has put together a video of the weekend, she decided to put music over it though.... the originals are huge, so can't post them....

might get around to it though laterz....

You have plenty of time now :flipoff2:

For an absolute age I have been meaning to make a new rear tyre/fridge/fuel carrier that will swing out. DAVE :D

One of the 40's limitation is space when away for a few days or more.

Well next year will see me away for more than a few days as I plan for MarkW's Alaska2010

Yes were going to see if we can ship the mighty 2F-ETI to Alaska and back. As most of you know I am insane :D

I am in the processing of converting my '89 FJ62 3F-EFI engine
in to my '74 FJ40 F.
I decided to stripping down and rebuild the engine befor
swapping. I am not an auto mechanic, I know nothing about
cars... this is my first hand on auto with the wrench....

Cool if you need any help just ask.

The 3FE is not a bad engine, I take it your swapping the ECU over and everything.

Regards Matt

I will definetely need help from you when I get further into the project. I am thinking of using the FJ62 chasis, front and rear axles instead of just swapping the engine.
I want the extra 2-1/5" wider and better suspension than the stock FJ40.
I am not sure if my 4 speed trany and bell housing will fit directly to the 3F-EFI engine..... I would like to get the 5 speed trany but, it kinda pricy
Any info? will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charly

Been a while but the 2F-ETI is still rocking along, flights are booked for ACT 2010
Flying in to LA and D'Animal's while the 40 is taking the slow boat to LA a couple of months before.
From there me and Dan are heading north all the way to Tok picking up Mace on the way.
I have any empty seat at this point, so if you have a month to spare from June 18th to July 16th then PM me your interests and why I would want to spend month in the cab with you.

Time to start work on the rear bar now, the front diff has been swapped over to 4.11 and we have 4x4 back now. So drive line is all but new.

Pretty sure it will but yota LSD's suck.

Hi Matt,

You can probably answer this, a rear 80 series 4.11 LSD diff will bolt straight into a full floater 40, 60 & 70 series rear housing?

Yeh, I know but my rebuild 40 is at the beachhouse and it either drives on rock hard low tide sand or high tide fluffy & very soft sand.

With my fibreglass sports tub I have no weight in the rear and having a locker is over kill. I was going to get it shimmed fairly tight and considering its only driven on the beach its not going to get a very hard work out.

We are building a new gal'ed chassis at the moment, dumping the OME leafs and putting coils & shocks all round. A radius arm front and 4 link rear

Used to run an LSD early on but soon switched to ARB air lockers, Just make sure you shim it real tight and it should be good.

I have a small intermittent problem. Twice now I have come to start the 40 only to have not on hint of starter motor. No click of the solenoid. All other electrics are fine and operational.

Starter is a later gear reduction from a 3F, the rest of that side of the ignition is stock.

My thoughts are the ignition barrel is getting warn and not making contact when turning the key to start or the solenoid is the issue.

Any other places to check apart from the wiring which seems OK.

On both occasions I have been lucky enough to be able to roll start, and after that no issues starting. Around a week between both incidents.
