I am still on the hunt for a hundy to replace my 80, but after doing some research I decided to go ahead and post this. I have been searching, but may have missed a good thread, so send me a link if this exists. Does anyone run the 255/80R17 size? I know it would be similar to the 255/85R16. I wasn't finding much info on here of anyone running the 17's. So I was thinking if you do run this size please post some pics, tire brand/model, which wheels, spacers/no spacers and lift/stock height info. Thanks for the help

I suspect the reason that your having issues finding much information on 255/80R17, for the 100 series, is that there's not much in the way of 17" wheels for the 100 series.

I know that in some overseas markets, there are 17" OEM wheels for the 100 series, but in the US, the only readily available 5x150 17" wheel that comes to mind, is the Tundra TRD "rock warrior", which does require spacers to fit the 100 series front hub. 16" (OEM) and 18" (OEM & aftermarket) wheels are far more common in the US for 5x150.

OK, i was going off the slee newbie guide. It says in '03 17 inch wheels came standard.

I stand corrected, but the 16" and 18" seem far more common in my experience.

I have a set of 2003 17 inch OEMs if you are interested.
Thanks for asking. I have purchased a 2000 LC and will continue to run the factory 16” wheels. You might consider posting in the classifieds if you haven’t already.

BUMP any 255 80 17 pics?

Bump. Want to see what pizza cutter looks like on the 100

Not 80's but either 70s or 65's on my black one.

They will look very similar to 255/85-16, som have a look at post 19 in this thread:

I've got a set of 17" FN's on the way (not due until later this year as it was a recent pre-order), but I'm looking at running a 255/80-17. Currently running 285/75-16's and interested to see if going to a skinnier tire does anything to help fuel economy (I average a measured 10-12mpg daily driving). I know I've seen pics of this size setup around the forum, but don't know that I can quickly find them again, and it will likely be October or so before I have wheels in-hand and can get tires mounted.

I'm very early in shopping for tires, but so far it looks like most 255/80-17 tires I'm finding are C load instead of E. I need to get my truck weighed, because while I've heard people saying they're finding C-load tires to have a more comfortable ride, I'm not sure I'm willing to go to a lighter-rated tire given that I've got steel bumpers (swing out on rear), a 200+ lb rooftop tent, and 5 people+gear to consider when figuring load... along with the potential of hauling a 15' trailer of scrap to the dump once or twice a year. Kinda thinking that sticking with the wider tire may be the most practical for my application.

You aren’t going to solve a weight/mpg problem with tires.

yeah, looking more for a minor all-around improvement by reducing unsprung/rotating mass. the FN wheels should already be decently lighter than my OEM, wouldn't mind going to a lighter tire as well. when I say "measured mpg" I recognize that my odometer is off by as much as 10% [285/75-16, roughly 33" currently], and when we took our trip to colorado we peaked on mpg at 17 measured mpg. All that considered, I don't think it's particularly terrible for what I'm asking of it, but it's also bad enough that any minor improvement will help. my normal commute is lots of start/stop, which is about the only area that lighter wheel/tire combo will help efficiency, but the narrower tire can actually hurt rolling resistance depending on the shape of the contact patch, inflation, etc... it's all a series of trade-offs. you're probably right though that I'm worried about pennies and ignoring dollars (so to speak).

E_Rated 255/85/R16 inflated to 42psi...the ride is rougher but the rolling resistance is generally minimized.
(except an AT would decrease it even further)
E-Rated skinnies on a 100 can be aired down to about 17 or 18 psi with little risk of losing the bead or
tearing up the rim.
