22RE Assistance Need / Live.

I am replacing the 22RE in a 1988 (Nov 87) Toyota 1-Ton with AC.

It was bought new in California by the current owner. It passes Ca smog every year, until it broke down. This does not have the CA emmissions stuff on it but it does have a few things that are not on the Non CA version.

Five different mechanics have worked on it in it's live time. I am installing a new 22RE and need some help with a few connectors and hoses.

I have spent the last three days removing stove bolts, installing Helicoils and installing the correct metric bolts in the correct holes.

I searched through the 2ndgenerationfan's sticky but nothing came up for this rig.

Here is what I'm looking at.

Please note that the Distributor does not a standard vacuum diapragm on the side. It does have an aluminum "pot" with two nipples on it.

What plugs into both of these nipples?

This is on the end of the firewall side of the fuel rail.

Holy s*** man, sorry but I'm kind of laughing. I -think- my 4skin is similar or even a full CA model, it's an 86 efi auto. I'll go look real quick and see if any of that resembles what I have.

If that hose end is the same hose as has that filter, then it looks like the vacuum for the 4WD solenoids.

I'll see if I can't go peek at my 22R-E on the engine stand tomorrow morning to answer the others. They all look familiar though....

This is for a 2wd 1-Ton truck.


Most all 22RE's should be the same.

What is this thing called?

Ok here are three pics. I think this is what you are looking at. The one on facing the driverside perpendicular to the head goes to the thing next to the distributor.

The one that goes to the drivers side ends up here on mine, right behind the distributor. It is the hose on the right side in the pic

The other on goes onto where the intake tube meets the "plenum" (I have no idea what it's called lol) It's the hose with red on the end.

Everything I have touched on this rig has been hooked up wrong or is a "trail repair" at best.

There was a little red drinking straw hold more than one cracked vacuum line together.

The smaller port on the fuel P.R. goes to this on mine.... I should say that my truck may not be stock... but it does run!

So that makes one big loop?
