Someone was asking me the HVAC codes. So I made a quick video about how to show you how to get the HVAC (air conditioner) diagnostic codes for your late model Toyota or Lexus vehicle or truck. This video shows the procedure on a 2017 LX570, but the same procedure will work on most Toyota and Lexus vehicles that have an "Auto" button and a digital temperature readout.

If you notice, my error codes were still stored, I had code 42 and 49. I cleared them, took it for a drive while changing AC settings, and then checked to make sure the codes did not come back.

Just starting to make my way through the baseline maintenance. Started with a simple one, replaced the PCV valve. Upon inspection the old one was still working, but had some crud in it that I could hear grinding around as it opened and shut. Easy replacement that takes just a few minutes for peace of mind, less chance of oil burning, and sometimes better MPG.

There are two part numbers for the PCV valve. Make sure to get the correct one:

PCV VALVE PART NUMBERS:
2008-2021 Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus LX570 PCV Valve:
Toyota Part Number: 12204-38010
Purchase on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/46M6nxu

2007-2021 Toyota Tundra or Sequoia 4.6L Flex Fuel or 5.7L Flex Fuel Engines PCV Valve:
Toyota Part Number: 12204-38030
Purchase on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3rxiIW3

Here's the video for you guys that might be replacing your PCV valve to use as a visual. There are slight differences in the plastic engine cowl covers throughout the years, but the PCV valve location is still the same.

This video is LONG. I ordered the cheapest Retrofit kit to upgrade my 2017 Lexus LX570 and install Apple Carplay and Android Auto. This kit was $289 on Amazon with free shipping. It arrived in 1 day to my door. I had my doubts since other similar kits on the market are anywhere from $600 to $1200. The instructions were terrible and almost non-existent. The wiring was not that easy to figure out due to lack of instructions. And it was my first time taking most of the dash, the screen, and the radio apart and removing them on this 2017 LX570, so it took me some extra time while I was being careful not to break any mounting tabs.
This works on the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 LX570.

I show all my trial and error in this video, so it is quite long. Make sure to watch the entire video before doing your installation. Because I made a few mistakes along the way that I showed. I thought about cutting those parts out and just showing you the right way to do it. But I thought it would be better to show you all my mistakes as well incase you run into some of the same problems.

In the end the solution is great, and for only $289 it is 1/2 or 1/3 the price of any other solution that comes close. It works with both Apple Iphone and also Android phones. The next/previous buttons still work to skip songs, the answer and hangup buttons on the steering wheel still work to answer phone calls, and the audio quality seems to be good as well. I'm not an audio expert, but it sounds about the same as stock to me.

The exact kit I purchased was this one:

I finally got around to installing the two piece storage solution upgrade. A few days in and I use it every single time I drive. My sunglasses, my cellphone, and my wallet all end up in there and it leaves my cupholders free. My wife also has a place to put her cellphone once she gets bored of scrolling through social media brainwashing
:)

Link to the exact one I purchased is in the video description. They have a variation for the 2008-2015 LX570 and one for the 2016-2021 LX570

2008-2015 and also 2016-2021 LX570 models.I bought it here on aliexpress, it arrived to my house in about 7 days: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DmFTNJN

Here's the full video, enjoy!

I’ve watched so many of your videos, but somehow never came across any of your posts on here. I saw in one of the video comments that you sold the 2009 and was bummed, since I relied on them for so much of the work that I did on my car. I just used your video as a guide on installing the Recarc Tow Pro Elite this past weekend.

But anyways, great to see you’re back in a 2017. Thanks for the videos and looking forward to more of them!

Nice!! Love that Redarc controller. I actually just ordered one for this 2017, will hopefully get time to install it in a couple weeks. It's by far the best brake controller I've had on any truck.

And great to meet you here on IH8Mud!!

Thinking about vinyl wrapping the wood trim in the 2017 LX570. Anyone else done this? Thoughts? Photos if you have done it on yours? Votes for or against it?? Video with the two vinyls I bought samples of to choose between below. Black Brushed Steel or Black Best Etched. Still not sure which route to go yet.

The faded sun damaged emblem in the front was driving me nuts. I tried wet sanding and compounding it, but the results were not good. The plastic on the logo had seen better days for sure.

Looked all over for a replacement and all the Lexus parts depots wanted to sell me the emblem and radar sensor for the several hundred bucks as part of a single part number. Finally found a Lexus parts seller on ebay that sold just the emblem for about $50. Got it in the mail and it took just a few minutes to replace. Looks brand new again and I don't have to see that ugly faded emblem on the grill anymore.

The part is listed to be compatible with what seems to be most of the 2013-ish - 2021-ish Lexus models with radar cruiser control. I think this includes the GX460, LS460, LX570, and IS/GS/RX/ES models.

READ FIRST: Based on some comments here it has become obvious that the eBay seller who I bought my emblem from is not selling the correct part anymore for vehicles that have the Radar cruise control. Please make sure to buy your replacement emblem from your favorite Toyota/Lexus parts source. The OEM part number is below.

Toyota/Lexus part number is 53141-60090. Usually around $350-400 from the dealershipsHere is the exact one I purchased from this seller.

ONLY USE THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE RADAR CRUISE CONTROL. SELLER IS NO LONGER SELLING THE CORRECT PART FOR LX570s equipped with RADAR CRUISE: Lexus GX460 LX570 GX400 LX460 Emblems 53141-60090 | eBay - https://ebay.us/All3q0

So I'm a little A.D.D. and sometimes get too picky. One of the things that always bugs me is a keyfob remote that is scratched up or looks worn out. Yes, I know, it sits in my pocket or in my bag. But it still bugs me.

So, I found a replacement shell for the keyfob remote, snaps right on, and looks brand new.

The replacement Lexus Toyota keyfob remote shell that I installed in this video can be purchased here: https://amzn.to/3szOe6k

If you have a slightly older one, here is the keyfob cover replacement for those: https://amzn.to/464Wv0T

And the battery you will need is the CR2032. Great deal on them here: https://amzn.to/45GHguC

And the video so you can see how to disassemble it and how it goes back together.

Hmmmm... Not sure if I like this or not. Going to give it a couple days and see if it grows on me.

Any opinions from the group? Go back to the wood look, or leave the brushed black look?

From the photos it looks great. I think in person if the black isn’t doing it for you try a variation of the color and you’ll settle on something. I like the brushed textured aluminum pattern that used to be in some of the old BMW M cars as well.

I loved the black interiors when I was shopping for my 2016. But I ended up going with parchment because of the matte open-pore walnut trim. You can always try wrapping it in something like that too?

I kind of like it better in the photos more than I like it in person. I'll see how it looks the next few days while driving around. I agree on the open pore walnut, I really do like that trim, too.

Very nice.

I also have a Hummer H1, so nice to see a fellow H1 owner here.
Great to meet ya as well. So little time, So many toys to love!

Can you trade in for a 2016+ LC? Love the simple things you’re doing here.
I love the front end look and the infotainment system of the 2016+ LC over the LX. But the AHC suspension on the LX570 is big plus for our usage.

the starfish center caps are still rattling. And I don’t want to wrap them with tape. I ended up ordering the overseas LX570 center caps instead. Looking forward to driving down the road without my center caps sounding like I’m dragging a bag of rattling rocks down the road. Video coming soon.

Overseas center caps…man is there a book you guys read to find out about this stuff?? If I still had my 21s I could’ve tried to source them…if I knew they even existed!

On a separate note regarding the wheels, I think ditching the stock 21s is a must-do mod for the 2016+ LXs since the tire choice is restricted to some pretty poor (and really expensive) options. I think you especially would really notice a huge difference since you tow your boat. What’s the total weight of your trailer and boat by the way?

For you guys with the 2016-2022 LX570s, and those annoying loose "starfish" shaped wheel center caps that always seem to rattle. I just installed my new OEM Lexus solid center caps and I am very happy with them. No more loose center caps, the caps do NOT have to be removed to remove the wheel, and they look cleaner too.

I purchased my new LX570 OEM center caps on eBay here: 4260B-60390 for sale | eBay - https://ebay.us/I6PCMa

Got a new OEM Toyota air filter installed last week to make sure she is breathing well. Old one was not OEM, had a little bit of of dirt and dust in there, but not terrible. But always good to get a fresh filter installed.

If you are a beginner and need a quick video reference of how to replace the air filter, here is the video. Links and part numbers for the filter are in the video description.

Had these for a couple months now. Just didn't get to upload the video till now. High speed USB charging ports, that are super flush so you can still close the OEM lids/doors. Very happy with them, they've been working great!

Silly stuff, not super duper offroad monster type content. But useful nevertheless :-)

Here's the flush mount high speed USB chargers I bought: https://amzn.to/3tYnlKl

Also bought a couple of these splitter cables to keep in the car. That way I have one cable that can charge every USB device, and I no longer need multiple cables: https://amzn.to/3Mn9KCE
