Wow wish we had known about that ! there is a pushrod, rocker and lifter in my parts box

just to set the record straight...........
i only got 3 days worth of work done the last week prior to the event due to the upcoming 45 run. then i had monday off ( coming home from the event ) and was going to be gone on friday again; had to attend a funeral and then off to the marlin roundup at rubicon springs. so i had another 3-day work week ahead of me and enough work to fill an 80-hour week. i made the decision to leave my phone in the car on tuesday. i had no work scheduled to come in, plenty of stuff to do around the shop and afaik, all the attendees from the 45 run had left the event on monday without incidence.
i know for a fact that you do not answer your phone at all times when you're at your shop. i can choose to do the same. i did get your voicemail ( i only listened to the first one later that afternoon ) and had just talked to marlin's ( you were already at his shop fixing your rig 2+ hours south of me ) so i knew you and your cruiser were in good hands there.
i also sent you a pm after that to which you never replied.
please don't come on here and make it sound like we don't help people out and that we ignored your calls. maybe we were just plain busy trying to make a living. i really should'nt say "we" as i'm speaking for myself here.
i tried my best to help with the pushrods. i gave you the only ones i had at the shop. if that's not good enough then it's pretty much out of my hands.
wanna know what i think?! tow your rig to far off events. i do so for one main reason; peace of mind. if something should happen to the rig i'm wheeling, i can always nurse or tow it back to the trailer and then drag it home from there. i know for a fact that my tow rig is very reliable. it also gets better fuel economy than most cruisers, it's got ac, satelite radio,......and it's comfortable. sure, there's no nostalgia in driving a tow-rig.
case in point. i towed my 4runner to the marlin roundup this weekend. the rig is more than capable of driving up there, making it all the way thru the trail and then drive home. while at the event, greenfox ripped a spring hanger out of his frame. we were able to limp the cruiser all the way back to my trailer. we loaded it up, i towed it home and he driove my 4runner home. if we did'nt have the trailer there, then i'd be getting home now ( hopefully ) had we found a shop in town to do the needed repairs. instead i got home last night, so did ryan and his family and both our trail rigs. enough said.

Georg, as a reader I never got the impression that Mark was trying to imply anything about anyone not wanting to help him. Particularly knowing you helped him out with the first pushrod dropoff. I think it is just part of his tale of woe that he was unable to reach anyone and pressed on....

Once again I must apologize. I am truly TRULY sorry that my story somehow made you feel like I was doing any finger pointing. I was just telling the story the way things went down. I TOTALLY understand about you needing to leave your phone off. I live life in a slightly overwhelmed state more often than not.

Ya know Whitey, I WAS thinking about at least changing the valve cover nuts to wingnuts to save time! Sheesh.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, what makes this a totally bonehead misadventure on my part is that a valve [tho I think it was an intake] first started to stick TWO YEARS ago when Tina and I were leaving the 45 run. It stuck and unstuck itself, did it once again about a month later in Death Valley, and hadn't really done it again since.
Nonetheless, I HAD rebuilt a replacement head for the truck shortly thereafter, which I never got around to installing. Then, about 4 months ago, I ended up selling the head to a young man in AZ that really needed one.
Since then, I sent not one, not two, not three, but 4 F135 heads to the machine shop before coming up with one that was rebuildable. They have been waiting the last six weeks for me to come up with valve seals for it.
So that is my karma.

Rob and I followed Nick to the shop after you guys completed your Nascar style pit stop to change his flat tire on his 60.
I would like to personally Thank You and Nick for all of your help on (Monday), loading the motor onto my trailer. We tried to make it a quick stop, we knew you wanted to get home. Nick had to rub it in, saying he would be home in like 5 minutes, knowing full well we still had a good 6+ hours to drive.
The mighty Dura max never missed a beat towing the trailer/45 with the A/C on the entire trip and still got 15mpg.
We are looking forward to next year's event!

bawahahaha, where did you dig that up?! i actually just saw that car for the first time in about 8 years. it's still on display at the hobby shop where i used to work. i was'nt going to do much with it so i hung it on the wall there many years ago. that was in my previous life.........before i got completely hooked on cruisers. i guess it's where all my mechanical tinkering and need to modify things stems from.
it was great having you, your bro and the rest of the san diego clan there. too bad some of the other guys could'nt make it. camp shangri la is rockin! that shower kicks ass, you need to charge admission!
