I contacted mvd here in AZ. They said it would be up to the inspectors at mvd if I could use the body. She also mentioned a "maple leaf" in the door, and if it had one may need more docs. I also called the inspectors at the local border who told me that if it has all the correct us specs/certs in the door jam then they can give it a HS7, so then its good to go. I assume it wont have the door plaques. They also said they import anything(even without plaques) and then it's up to us to get it through mvd. Interesting to note though was mvd told me people import vehicles from Canada all the time and get a letter from the manufacture that states it meets us safety and emissions regulations. I thought that was difficult to acquire... If you can take a pic of the door jam and post it that would be great. Thanks.

You can get the docs for Canadian vehicles that are the same as ours and have been tested to meet dot/epa rules. This truck isn’t one of those vehicles.

I don't think a lot of people will spend 7k then roll the dice on those two import options man.

All you have to do is tow is back over the border and declare it as only being used for parts. When you get home you buy a wrecked 70 series cruiser and swap the VIN's over. Also make sure the wrecked cruiser you buy has not been through insurance. Finding a wrecked cruiser with VINS you can use is the hardest part. This is what you do to "rebuilt" status vehicle back into province. GL

Does that mean no air bag or emissions equip? What exact designations are on the truck? Slee built something with a newer truck cab..

No air bags...not sure of emissions on a diesel...
Not sure how Slee did theirs...I believe 79 cab on 80 chassis....

The only way you’re going to build one of these for road use is if you follow the advice above (a felony) or if you buy the body parts and build them on another chassis.

There are much better cabs to buy than these...mining use has not been nice to them...value in the driveline to myself

Thanks for fielding all these questions btw. What are the front/rear axle weight ratings? I found some info stating 79's do 3500kg tow capacity.

I can get a wrecked 80 series for 1k, body totaled but all else is good...
