1VD-FTV/H150F Sources for FJ40 Swap??

If money were no object that's not the engine I'd be playing with. The 6 cylinder 1HD-FTE is a real landcruiser engine. The V8 is 2 car engines (euro 2.2D avensis) sharing a crank. I haven't heard any other modern engine having oil consumption issues.

Tuning wise, VW engine tuning is essentially laid open by the companies selling tuning software (all maps identified etc). The Toyota ECU's however can't be tuned. Last I heard (~2 years ago) The editing protection in them hasn't been cracked. Tuning is essentially limited to plug in boxes to modify signals and increase fuel pressure.

You might be able to modify a duramax or similar tunable commonrail ECU to work on the engine. But it would be a horrendous amount of work.

back to original post (2010!)
you want an engine in the states there is zero support for am I correct?
the h150 series transmissions are big, way big and only take 80 series style t cases.
You will have no rear driveshaft in a 40 series plus every headache with a one off transplant.

hdt series 6 cylinder engines work because they can mate to the common (and supported) cast iron H55 5 speed. Still short on driveshaft (18"+/- on 2f powered fj40's).

If you want something else Toyota engine wise in a 40 series, use a known mate to a cast iron transmission.

now the importation drift. You cannot afford nor have the connections to import to mexico. I know even materials or equipment imported from the US is subject to 30% duty and that passenger diesels are very uncommon. Toyota mexico is tied to TMS USA although they get the gas hilux in Baja.

Canada won't allow a complete import truck for road use under 15 years old without $$$$$$$$. If you can get ENS or MPI to import a truck for you then you can "get the truck" but cannot get it across the border nor drive it on roads.

Bringing parts in: no fuel system, glass and lights are a question. The engine, in a long block must pass the EPA form test which it cannot and will never be able to be brought in except as pieces- many pieces. "used engine, short block" might work but check first.

70 series land cruisers 2009 and later do not all have airbags although the dash will accept them.

Heres a question. Regardless of how youd get it into the states, where could you buy a 79 series landcruiser that is left hand drive?? What country would be the best place to buy a LHD version?

I understand they never made them in LHD. I've seen armoured vehicle manufacturers websites which limited the VDJ79 to RHD chassis only.
There may be a LHD specific clearance issue.

I saw a post on the 80 series toyota land cruiser Facebook group about a 1VD going into an 80 series chassis, and the whole thing was going to have a 40 body to top it off. Buddy had the engine almost perfectly mounted in the 80 chassis.
Can't find the post anymore to check up on his progress, but I often think of doing something similar.
Maybe when the price of oil goes back up and I'm making money again....

Unfortunately not with the 1vd-ftv though

Forget about that combo .. not happening ( at least I don't see that happening ) we have all versions of the 7* series with 1HZ engine ..

Hello, I know this forum is pretty old, but I happen to have a 1VD-FTV twin turbo diesel for sale, complete with the transmission for a 4x4. If anyone is interested you are able to contact me here or at my email, usn.randall@yahoo.com
