It actually does this LTFT at no load driving 55.

What I’ve seen from monitoring the fuel trims is that along the (RPM, TPS ,LOAD) range there are points were the LTFT will be hard set and different between the points.

I have no idea how they are identified or values determined, just that they are there.

How are the idling Fuel trims?

Since rebuild, the Ishino brand front crank seal never sealed. Replacing with an OEM one. Also doing the oil pump o-ring while I’m in there as well as the A/C Clutch bearing.

What’s the consensus on dry versus oil the o-ring prior to installation?

I used the allen head bolts last time on the oil pump cover and thought they were going to strip to remove so not sure what to replace them with this time. They were black oxide so don’t know if that caused the issue with the aluminum.

Spoke with the machine shop and they recommended wet install of o-rings with associated lube. Petroleum Jelly can be used with automatic transmissions only.

Ordered some torx bit bolts for the oil pump.

Tore into the motor to check timing gear alignment and everything was spot on but I have several cam lobes with severe wear. So, checked that all lifters rotated and they do. No shim wear. Motor had been broken in on Joe Gibbs break in oil and has been run on it its whole life. Valve clearances were checked and all in spec, some getting larger gaps. So, it appears that the reground parkerized Toyota cams are wearing but why?

Because they are re-ground cams?
Kinda like re-tread tires. How good can they be?

Hey Dan, good to hear from you. Maybe you are on to something but cam shops do this all the time and I was hoping to take advantage of known good Toyota cam steel compared to the unknown aftermarket. My machinist says that the metal is just as hard all the way through regardless of the myths going around the Internet. But these kind of things do make me want to stick with stock parts the older I get so you don’t have these troubles.

Agreed, cams have been re-ground for about as long as they have been around. On rhe other hand, Toyota has been known to use voodoo when it comes to metallurgy. I could be way off base but I don't think so.

I would if I could. It's based on a gut feeling developed over a 45 year stint in the car business. Totally unscientific.

I had a 22R a few years ago self destruct. The previous owner said it was just rebuilt. On teardown, the aftermarket cam metal was so poor it wore down in no time.

So, back to the drawing board on the cams. Question on the TRD Supercharger. Best I can tell researching online was that it was rated at 5 psi of boost from TRD. Is that the case?

5-6 pounds. The stock pulley was 3.2 inches. I have a 3 inch pulley and I see ~6.5 pounds max.

When I first rebuilt the motor it seemed like I had trouble finding the Torx bit bolts for the oil pump and used Allen ones in its place. Even this was a pain to remove but probably easier than Phillips heads. This time going to go with Torx tightened to 48 inch/lbs as these don’t need much. Using new Toyota parts for the oil pump and front Crankshaft seal which I will need to hold off on until the replacement cams are installed. Speaking of, trying to hunt down a good intake cam in case Schneider strikes out finding one.

Looking for a 1FZ-FE Intake Camshaft if anyone has one PM me.

Still available new.

Unfortunately with the head work I've had done and longer valves, I have to have custom or reground cams to fit so hate to do that to a new cam. We're going to try a different profile as well.

I would definitely not buy a new cam then. Especially at over 550 bucks wholesale. The list price is north of 800 bucks

New cams arrived so now I get to go through the fun process of valve adjustment to get everything set up right. Noticed some concerning wear on the shim and bucket. I can actually feel the wear on the shim and I know those things are super hard. The bucket has some chatter marks on it. And this is the first one I pulled lol!
