I have a 1993 LC , after the parts cannon, the truck seems to idle FiNe when in park and even rev up smooth, but as soon as I put the truck in drive/reverse etc. It stumbles and hiccups, almost dies. Parts replaced are:
Dizzy
Dizzy cap
Button
Plug wires
Plugs
Coil pack
Fuel filter+reg. + pump
Cleaned injectors
Grounds are fine..
I'm down to the ignitor (as it supposed to send a high voltage signal to the coil pack)... can somebody point me in the right direction...?

In the FSM, there is a section that lists tons and tons and mechanical issues/problems. You'll find lots of references to idling problems. Then, the FSM provides 10 potential solutions for each problem. Run through the stuff on idling.

BUT, I'm guessing that there is a timing issue with your rig. It is all too easy to put the dizzy back in, off one tooth. I'm wagering that it's the basic timing, but the dizzy could be off a tooth.

Also, if you don't have the diagnostic tool to insert into the engine bay port, just use a bent paperclip. It works just as well.

Update: I just set the distributor back a tooth, and it solved my stumble when I blip the gas but my timing light is showing my timing at about 30 or 40° off, when I turn the distributor counter the closest I can get is about 25° ....also...just put another set of brand new wires ans spark plugs....this HAS GOT TO BE ECU RELATED..., idle is still high

There are a lot of great Cruiser people in AL. If you buy beer, you might be able to tempt one of those fellers to come have a look at your truck with you.

@Godwin do you have any buddies in/near Birmingham who could drop by Dudemanslick's place to assist with his 80. He's dealing with the usual high idle/surging stuff, and he's gone through a ton of stuff already, but still having issues with timing.

With your timing off that far, man, are you sure that you've got it re-installed correctly? Usually a tooth off would mean a few degrees out of adjustment. 25-40 is way, way off. I'm scratching my head here.

I won't pound you with too many questions, but the most important one is: did you follow the steps in the FSM exactly?

Since you're as far in as you are, you've had previous experience wrenching; I'm not meaning to be demean what you're doing. But, something is wrong. Go back to the FSM and go through all of the steps.

Also, if you can, buy oem parts. Yeah, they are expensive, but they are the best, by far.

Yes! I followed it Exactly! And no offense taken at all, i work on cara for a living, i own a customs shop north of bham , i stay wrenching lol.
so quick back story, I did the headgasket back in November, drove the truck with no problems for a few months , then out of nowhere I started having a " slow to start issue", exhuast smelled like pure gas , i adjusted the distributor and was able to lean it out some, not long after that maybe a week later, a misfire developed, after pulling the plugs i noticed they looked lean as heck, couldn't even smell the gas, led me to checking the fuel pump, replaced it just cause I knew it was old, then led me to the fuel pump relay...at this point im wondering what the heck happened..., I proceeded to clean all the check and clean all the injectors..., I even went a got a noid light to triple check that they were getting signal,...I then decided to replace fuel filter and reg.,...then Yada yada..., im 90% sure im doing it correct..,
Me and my buddy are both STUMPED.....
We had to find tdc before we pulled the head last time, and we had great success after the head job

@Dudemanslick Cruiser shop OTM is in Leeds and it’s run by @Bama4door I’d take there and have the professionals look it over.

Sorry if I missed it, has the OP checked for (OBD I) engine codes?

@Dudemanslick
Sounds like you may have damaged wires in the main engine harness where it passes the EGR plumbing. Common problem. Pull the harness apart and closely examine all wires for heat damage, crack, bare wires etc. Searching will give you multiple threads related to this.
