Hi all,

I'm curious if anyone has successfully mated the 5-speed H55f (from 60-series, non-US FJs) to the 4.5L 1-FZ FE engine used widely in FJ and FJZ80 models?

Reason I'm asking is because I own a 1986 FJ60 and have the H55f in it; 2 weeks ago I was hit on the freeway and now my beloved rig is totaled.

I am considering all options to repair/replace what I love - and one idea I recently had would be to put the manual transmission and t-case (simple front axle engagement; no center diff) from my FJ60 into a repurposed FJZ80, with relatively simple modifications, if possible - and essentially have the best of both worlds from my two favorite cruiser models combined into one badass custom rig.

Any thoughts or tips are appreciated!

I strongly believe you can do it with OEM parts .. I post this before but here ya go again ..

few 70 series down here came with 1HZ and H55F combo .. and then you can put an H55F ( will talk about that later ) that H55F behind any 1HD-T ..

Since 1HD-T and 1FZ-FE share the same tranny for us ( H151 ) I believe ( and I wanna be clear that's what I believe based in my butt science .. ) you can use the same bellhousing ( have the part number in my office ) used in 70 series with H55F to put it behind your 1FZ-FE ..

Dunno about the electronics tho ..

FJ80 + 2f-e + H55/split case would be sweet. Sounds like you have everything but the FJ80.

1FZ-FE and 1HZ/1HD-T have completely different bellhousing and crankshaft bolt patterns.

Something is in the works for the H55 to 1FZ. Tor is the guy to talk to.

Bjowett tried it here and it bolted up but was not an exact fit.

That is the first I have heard of this. Good news, except for the fact that I gave up on the idea and sold my h55 last week

If this is actually happening and Tor can make the electronics jive he will be a porn star for eternity.

1FZ+H55+HF2a/V would be an iconic mashup.

I would be happy to support this.

And first I have heard of Tor doing the R&D on this.

I can do some basic things with Arduino. Taught middle school kids how to make some basic projects. Thought I'd share this as a possible home-brew ECU?

Bump. Looks like someone has made it work...

Did I miss some mention of the 1FZ-FE + H151?

That came stock factory with new transmissions readily available.

The picture above is a 1FZ-H55F-split case. That never came factory and no known version exists except for now the one above appeared.
