Neat rig. Love that it's got no sunroof, no roof rack, no third row, no sliding windows, no power seats. Has everything you need. Nothing you don't. Looks like you're moving quick on bringing it back to its former glory. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Sun roof is nice...until it leaks, roof rack was cool....until it rusts/leaks, third row ....still not cool( dont have any kids lol), I would still like sliders in the rear but that can be done at a later point, power seats...eh lol.

Rust is the enemy, good on you for fixing it and not just giving up. Finding used body parts were you are can't be easy. Ain't this forum great!

I know...the stuff sucks. Considering those two spots are the worst on the body I figured it was worth saving. And its not. If you find anything it comes with a hefty premium. If you cant find it on island your screwed because most sellers wont even ship larger items and if they do the freight usually cost more than the part.

Keep up the good work! Very happy to see you saving this Cruiser!

Thanks !

I'm currently doing my flares, If you want new seals for your flares try toyota part number PZQ50-33096, found this is $7 a packet for 2m vs $45 a packet for the 80 series one.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. I will be sourcing some from the local dealer.

Not much going on today. I had to order a new rear window seal. Dropped it off for some paint and body. Started on blacking out the grill and other misc. chrome pieces. I have started to notice that it doesnt start idling rough until it warms up. hummmm

Nice rig man. I have a '91 with a LOT more miles (288K) and have found a few culprits for rough idle.

First of all...any vacuum leak is the going to give you a rough idle and is probably your biggest possible culprit. There is a ton of vacuum-need on this rig, so be diligent. Here are a few areas that I found:

1. Vacuum hoses. Sounds like you have this covered, but make sure that all of them are routed properly...especially the ones near the air cleaner. They are easily miss routed. Make sure you clean out your hard lines near the intake manifold too.
2. PCV valve - make sure you have a good seal so you're not losing vacuum here.
3. Vacuum hose that attaches to the brake booster as well as the rubber grommet on the booster. Mine was worn out and leaking even though I couldn't see it or hear it.
4. Valve adjustment is necessary on these rigs. Mine had a tendency to get rougher as it got warmer.
5. Check your alternator output. Mine was failing and when I got a new one, the motor ran much smoother having proper voltage.

Hopefully this gives you a little help. I'll send more areas as I think of them.

Looks like a wonderful worthwhile project. I did a similar build and can see your making this a great clean truck again.

Look forward to seeing more thank you sharing and good luck

Thanks fore the info. These damn vac hoses suck ( no pun intended lol). Have you deleted the air pump/egr? Im considering it. On my list is to replace brake booster grommet and hose. Ill check the pcv seal. When you did the valves did you use the FSM or a a step-by-step on here? I have noticed my alt out put to be on the high side of the gauge. I took it in and it tested good but I have yet to throw my voltmeter on it. Possible issue?

I haven't done the EGR delete. Mine seems to function fine and seems like a lot of work for very little gain. Unless you need the space under the hood, I don't see the point.

Did you happen to notice if the radiator was still in the fj80 at the yard that you pulled the parts from? I need a radiator...
I am not busy today or saturday morning if you want to swing by for some sensors, egr plate or air pump delete? I live just outside the pearl harbor navy base.

I actually stopped by the yard today and had another look at the radiator. It is in better shape than I though. Still looks to be in decent shape.

Not much today. Stopped by the shop and dropped off new side mirrors and gas lid. Should have it done by the end of the week. I have slowly started amassing parts ( cb/fm ant, vac lines, splitter, decals, ect)

nice work! please post pics of how you fix the rust in the rear window, interested to see how that goes.
Thanks. I would but it has already been repaired. THere are a few ways of doing it but the best is to cur out the rust and welding in new metal. Some will also cut out and use fireberglass.

Still waiting on the truck to be finished up at paint. While waiting I decided to wash the rear carpet( nasty) and gather parts for the trash. Also started some CAD progress for the rear bumper. Thinking about running dual swing out/ rear light/ ect. Thinking about going with 35's and some trail gear sliders.

Oh...and some parts got in

Bumper CAD( cardboard assisted design) :)

i would cut the rusted rear window section out of the one in the junk yard and try welding it in.

Alsoi love the early cloth interior. Can you sow a few ore picture of it?

The rust has been cut out and replaced with fresh metal. No need to ruin a good cruiser to get the frame. I will post a some more interior pics in few day...the cruiser should be done this week.

Nice!

Same color?

Nope...I went with the new Toyota trd pro cement
