as I understood it at the time, it was another driver's ed. vehicle, with a uniformed student driver and instructor. cause of mishap was, in this order; language, familiarity, changing radius curve, "excessive" speed and articulation.

So my batteries are shot or my alternator is. I hope it's the first. Started rally rough yesterday but turned over. Today barely turned over and drove a good 30 minutes. Was I started it back up after drive it was dead. Really hope I don't need to replace alternator.

bug it out correctly and you might not have to replace both.

If you have a hydrometer, check the fluid density/ spec. gravity of both batteries.
it helps to "bang or shake" gently before measuring when the battery is above about 25 deg. C.

better yet, take it to a parts store, get them to test. they usually want to sell you an alternator and battery though.. or TWO!

on a cascaded series battery config, sometimes swapping batter #1 with battery #2 saves the day in a pinch.

Edit. Phone double sent

edit edit...not the starter...put a jump on the low battery when I got home and cranked up perfectly. So it's the battery or alternator. Low battery is reading 12.2V high battery reading 13V.

Do you have matching batteries ? and have you charged them topped them off ? I really like my 24v trickle charger I would highly recommend one.

My front battery showed 700+ cranking amps when tested .... The rear showed 80-100 amps which explained a lot of starting issues.

Copying those numbers for tomorrow Charles, I'm guess I'll be the other way around...Thanks. I'm hoping it's only the two batteries that I have to buy, or maybe get these replaced from Costco. I've had my Toyota pick-up for almost 10 years and it has never let me down...even with all the abuse. The bj73 is a dream come true, but the trust hasn't built up yet that it will get me from point A to point B no matter what. Dumb sounding I know, hopefully I'm just working out a few kinks early on and smooth'ish sailing afterwards. It's hard to replace one vehicle with another that you've trusted for so long.

PM sent yeti...curious what you are using.

Have faith ..... :D
The worst case... You meet some interesting people while hitch hiking back home. :)

out with the old...in with the new...buddy hooked me up with some batteries today.

The back battery was at 500 cranking amps and the front was 200. The alternator was putting out 30a, so at least it wasn't that.

If anyone needs this as a reference, I found a post Crushers stating that Group 27 battery is the proper size, that is what I put in and fits perfectly. The old batteries were almost half the size. A lot more cranking power as well.

If your running 12 and 24v be prepared for this to happen again unless you fix the 12v issue
