I saw my ole BJ71 today. I'm sad to report that the current owner hasn't taken very good care of the Cruiser. :(

Doesn't look bad from the pic.

The lesson here ....... Don't ever buy a vintage vehicle based solely on photos.

That will do it!

While I realize that any vintage vehicle is prone to rust, the BJ was garaged full time and was seldom subjected to weather while I owned it. On the other hand the current owner has left it outside pretty much full time. I'm sure the corrosion can be repaired but it will be quite expensive.

I always forget that keeping cars outside can "kill" them in some parts of the world. Thank god for the desert!

I've always found it humorous when I saw advertisements proclaiming "Southern car .... No rust".
Southern Georgia averages 50+ inches of rain on an annual basis and during the Summer the humidity runs "off scale" both of which are key ingredients in the formation of rust.

New Mexico Desert..........Perfect.

Whut's rust? :flipoff2:

similar with claims from high humidity areas like Costa Rica, Cuba etc.
the claims made are "rust free climate" and the seller talks about how there is no snow so no rust.
pure BS, humidity can rust a vehicle almost as fast as snow/salt can, the difference is the rust from high humidity areas are inside rusting out where as salt rusts from the outside in (in most cases)
here in Ontario, we have salt in the winter, NASTY and high humidity in the summer. it is a no win situation unless you have a climate controlled storage facility.

The above BJ71 has been setting outside in the "Southern" climate for a couple of years and the results are not good.

Here you go Dan.....
Keeping you happy is a real pain. : )
