well diesel shop is still tearing down engine, already said number 2 and 3 pistons toast and I guess liners too, number 4 bearing spun and crank jacked so some crank buildup has to be done, find out more this week. On a good note I saved some $$$ on my car insurance lately, lol. Installed a nice little Federal brand police inside map light, mounted A/C controller in diff spot, put on new rear backing plates, routed air locker hoses and mounted switches in dash, tank is underneath in rear. putting all door glass and hardware together this week and installing, hardtop is back at body shop and getting worked on and painted.

Engine bay looks so sad?

Is my frt driveshaft installed backwards?

There was a post recently about the front drive shaft - I think it was by dingbatt and HJ47 - the net result was that the slip joint should be at the t-case end to prevent a pole vault if it ever slipped out. That also gives more room around the cross member.

Yeah flip that front driveshaft, slip yoke goes up against the transfer.

Sorry to hear this Rob

Has anyone considered a likely cause for all this damage?

And here is a pic from the Owners Manual that shows the correct drive shaft orientation:

And don't forget to get the yokes on each driveshaft aligned correctly too:

no cause yet, as of Friday they had not pulled crank or cam yet. will know shortly and then a letter will go to machine shop if need be. Thanks, I am on the driveshaft now.

front or back makes no big difference. i have run the frotn or rear diveshaft either way for decades with no ill.
but
i do like the slip at the t/case end,,, just cause.

That sucks to hear about the engine damage. I don't know what I would do if my project engines crapped out so soon. It would be very disappointing to say the least.

pulled them both today, swapped around the frt shaft and aligned/ phased and the rear needed to be aligned as well. here is one corrected now.

the diesel shop is telling me the machine shop installed incorrectly evidentally especially since I onloy drove it maybe 25 miles? The machine shop is about to get my email about refund or small claims court for this is $$$$$ me alot. U can imagine how my crank must have looked?

R

I once did that myself with my 2F. I not only thrashed my bearings but bent the crankshaft. But you have a gorgeous rig and it'll be back together and it'll all be worth it. best of luck

my advice, just have a diesel shop do it and be done, A shop that can rebuild a Cummins 4BT or any other mechanical diesel can do this from what I hear? But I am have no knowledge in rebuilding. I had a machine shop do it and I guess they didnt follow the 3B engine manual as much as they should have.

well still rolling along, getting the top buttoned up, all new weatherstripping on which is a total PITA for around doors with adhesive. new CCOT gutter which is PITA as well but not as bad as it seems. new glass weatherstripping, pop out vent window latches, top gets painted today and then it will get bolted down, then my front turn signals are getting painted gloss black to match other accents. Diesel shop got my new parts I ordered from 4WheelAuto and getting that buttoned up.
