I bought this one from rock auto. I think it is the same as the one from cruiser corps but less than half the price.

One note there is no drain on the bottom of these aftermarket tanks.

You can also get this same tank through Amazon with free shipping. Just search the brand name and model number. They have been sold out but inventory comes in sporadically you just have to be ready to order quickly.

Huge help, thank you! So there's one hole for both pickup and return? Is there some kind of manifold that screws into that port that has an opening for two fuel lines (one going out, one coming back in)? Just trying to visualize this so I know what to ask of the mechanic doing the work.
I think the 3 small tubes go up into the plastic fuel vapor thingy behind where you put fuel in.

Are these generally "as good as" oem with regard to quality, fit, rust resistance? The guy that had talked about doing my gas tank job said that he was going to order a 4-500$ version because it was somehow better.

Here is my spectra from Rock auto test fit in my 79.

It looks and fits just like the OEM as far as I can tell.

@Skreddy has used one as well and said it fit just like OEM.

I have one sitting in my garage I just haven’t gotten around to replacing mine yet. As to rust resistance I have no idea. I was going to throw some paint on mine before I installed it to give some extra protection but no clue if anyone else has done that with long term results.

As far as I know this is the only company making replacement tanks for the 79+ model. OEM is discontinued. You can order the spectra tank through different vendors but they’re literally the same tank. Amazon or Rock Auto will likely be the cheapest.

Last edit. The only difference between this aftermarket tank and the OEM unit I’ve found is that the spectra tank does not have a fuel drain plug on the bottom. Others have cut out the drain plug from the OEM unit and had it welded into the aftermarket tank. Or just run it as is.

Yep, used one in a 79 and I ordered from Amazon. Fit great, looked great. I’ve used their tanks and oil pans in other vehicles and haven’t been disappointed yet.

Awesome, that was kinda what I had in my head - thank you!
If your existing tank is rusty, check that pickup tub really well. The one in the 79 I did looked fine but once cleaned up, the bottom half was rusty and full of holes. I was able to weld a new piece of steel tube on instead of sourcing a new one.

You can also drain the tank and check the inside out with one of these. Use the inspection hole. I did and there was about a half inch of rust and crude at the bottom.

I cleaned that all out but then my tank sprung leaks everywhere. I had a puddle of gas running out of the garage. 😕

Was getting ready to order my tank finally and just going back over the thread - what is a pickup tub?

Ugh yes. Pickup tube. In those tanks the pickup and return come in at the same spot, it’s a removable piece.

I'm doing this very same thing right now after something in my tank was prohibiting fuel to the carb (new fuel pump + rebuilt OG carb). I hooked a fuel line from the supply side of the fuel filter to a gas can and problem solved (fuel was now filling up the carb sight bowl). I drained my tank the other day and I had at least an inch of fine rust sitting at the bottom of the tank. I removed the tank today -- looking into the tank its rusty BUT it might be worth boiling and sealing it. My pickup tube was very rusty but cleaned up pretty well too (no holes are thin areas at all). Conventional wisdom says buy a new tank BUT the aftermarket ones have NO drain plug which is annoying. And I'll have to paint or rhino line the new one too.

For a 1980 aftermarket tank my options are:
Amazon = $220 (no drain and no pickup tube)
Cruiser Corp = $460 (I've heard people say its the exact same one as the one on amazon/rockauto)
Toyota Parts Overstock = $550 (guessing its OEM and comes with the pickup tube and with a drain plug)

Any insights on which tank to buy or if I should try restoring first??

Oh and for those wondering about removing the tank, I jacked up the frame and removed the driver side leaf spring, the tank will slide out like a dream.

Pretty sure there is only one manufacturer for these (Spectra).

OEM part is 77100-60045, what you listed is the earlier tank, even though it says for 1980.
