Installed the rocker arm assembly and adjusted the valve clearance following the "Cold Clearance" settings on the FSM.

Hey Chris,

I used a silver engine enamel paint that I got at Advance Auto Parts. Not sure of the brand, though, but I could go and look. It wasn't anything special.

Cleaned and refinished the valve cover and installed a new valve cover gasket. Got the 3B decal on the valve cover from www.cruiserparts.net

And installed a new water pump

I bought new heater hose connectors from Advance Auto Parts. They were on the HELP! section with a 56360 part number.

Also sanded and painted the lifter cover and installed it with a new gasket.

How could I ever forget this one! It was the source of tremendous frustration for the previous owner (and for those of us on ih8mud who were trying to help) with its engine troubles.

My friend Chris, who owns a repair shop in Columbus, offered to help me set up the engine and transmission (when the time comes), help me with the power steering conversion, and do some work that will require a welder to complete.

I don't own a welder, yet. I think a welder and a big compressor are on my things to buy for the garage

We put the 3B engine on the back of the 40, strapped it down for transport and the BJ70 helped his engineless brother (the BJ40) to get on the trailer

At some point during its life in El Salvador, somebody decided to weld-on a winch box.

I have different plans for the winch bumper on the BJ40, so this one had to go

Since this will be my heavy-duty trail truck, I wanted to get good low-range crawling ratio.

This BJ40 will have a 5-spd H55 transmission that came mated to a 34mm Split Case. I decided that I wanted the more stout 38mm iddler shaft on the Split Case and install the Advance Adapters 4:1 gears on the Transfer Case. I bought the 38mm Transfer Case already machined to accept the 4:1 gears and the Advance Adapters Gears from Georg (orangefj45) at Valley Hybrids. I had the opportunity of meeting Georg at the 2013 Rubithon event and Georg is a super cool guy, and a great vendor.

I flew to Sacramento and did the trails with my friends Bruce, Mark and his son Hayden on a couple of FJ40's. Bruce and Mark were the designated Medic's for the event. We were on the trails from Tuesday to Sunday.

I met with a couple of friends from Venezuela at the Rubicon Springs (Alvaro, Roberto, and Jonathan)...very cool people.
